Woo, well I am going to school full time majoring in IT. I have a job with verizon as a Drafter/GSO. Making $23/hr. Good pay, and i'm 18. Getting my own place this week, and saving for a TII. A degree in IT, business, or engineering, and you could go anywhere and never be out of the job.

I work for a Video Game Developer, and before you ask NO, I don't get paid to play video games, those people are Testers, and get paid like $10 an hour, and work 50+ hours a week...
I deal is skeletal setups, like an Orthopedist, but for Video Game Characters, I also worked on Movies, and TV Shows. I went to Full Sail, for Video/Film Production, and taught everything else myself. It's not a road I'd suggest, but like everyone here, it's something I wanted to do. Subsequently, there's been only a hand-full of days that I didn't want to get up to go to work. Mostly due to someone at work being a jerk (Boss / Co-Worker).
If you love what you do, $$ will follow, since you'll be one of the best at what you do.
List of Fields I have to be proficient at:
Biomechanics
Algebra / Geometry
C / C++ Programming
Graphic Design
Film / Video production practices

Stop telling this kid that you NEED to know someone. That's a total cop-out. Straight out of school, I was working at a very prestigious firm that's very difficult to get into. I didn't get in from knowing anyone. I just busted my *** like most of the people that are there. If you know someone, that's great. Don't fool yourself into thinking that all successful people got there by knowing the right people. Even if they meet the right people, it's because they make the effort to be in places where they'd meet people that can help their careers. It's all hard work. So instead of getting **** drunk with your friends, you're better off going to company recruiting events. You'll get to go to tons of them when you get into a good university.

Im 18 and I go to school full time for automotive technology (fancy way to say wrenching). And Im a technician at a auto repair shop about 28-30 hrs a week everyday after school and a full day on friday. I get paid 12$ an hr. not bad for not really having any real experience and still being a student.

But yea I hope to open my own shop one day. So gotta take the small steps first.

Bmw Technician.. just turned 23, already at that "how did i get here?" stage in my life. 5 years experience in the field now (i worked part-time while going to school). Only making 17 an hour, but the real money here is in side jobs. If you have the knowledge, and are willing to cart a few tools to and from work, you can make another 20-30k a year just fixing your "friends" cars (it would be illegal if you were strangers). Or, just buying cheap off craigslist and selling high on yahoo. In six months they'll give me a shot at being a service adviser, and they make 6-digit incomes after a couple years experience (at least, at BMW they do). They say to "stay in school," and i completely agree. Even when you start working, take night classes. It's helped me in so many ways.

It is a nice place to kick back. but there arent many job here that will have good pay. I like math and working with my hand. Working in an office isn't for me. Always like to create new stuff. I like be a mechanic but somehow im having a feeling that i wanted to go into the medical field. I'm going to a competition in automotive service technology. Its called Skill USA or VICA i believe. They have competition for almost everything. I went last year and won regional and then went to state and got a gold medal, but it was only beginning auto service tech so i dont get far. This year i'm hoping to go to national and see what i can get from there. There is a prize for $25,000 scholarship for winning state. I dont know about national, but I'm aiming for National which would be held in Kansas City, MO.
What do you guys think about trade school like UTI, Wayo Tech, ITT tech compare to Universities. Is it a good thing to go to those school and spend about 1-2 years then start a job. I herd that once you finish school like UTI, that they will just send you to a work place like Jiffy Lube or something like that.

I went to UTI in Sacramento and then because of my good grades and attendence got accepted into the Mercedes ELITE program. IMO if you go to UTI do well enough to get into a manufacturer program or just don't go at all. I saw alot of kids at the school that I knew weren't going anywhere because they didn't like following the school rules. UTI doesn't technically SEND you anywhere when you graduate. They have Job placement assistance but that just means they post up whatever jobs they know are available and you call them.
Point is, if you go to UTI get into an MSAT (Manufacturer Specific Advanced Training) program. Whichever one you prefer.
I got a job two weeks after graduation and I make bout 40k after taxes. Not too bad for a 20 year old but could be better. If I could do it again I'd probly just suck it up and go to a four year to get a degree. Working on cars is a great hobby because you work on your own car. Working on other peoples cars is just annoying and gets you nothing in return, besides a pay check. So Keep that in mind.
