I'm 23 with experience in everything...i see raggin coming!
anyway i work for a solar company and go to school. I'm getting a degree in graphic arts and design. I suggest you find out what you really like and follow it. The worst thing you can do is settle. Noone wants to work beacuse they have to. Its the best to get paid to do something you love. Eventually you'll need to get away from it which is why cars are my hobby. hope it helps... my .02

If you want to be a manager at a fast food place, go to In-N-Out. After ~10 or so years, they earn $100k+, I **** you not.

My town is small, not much to do here. Planning on going to college. I know for sure that if i want a good job its not in Oroville. Oroville is more like a good place to have your retirement. I'll come back to this town to retire, but now Oroville is getting bigger. I just dont know what kind of college i am going to go to, but i might start out at Butte then transfer.

It is a nice place to kick back. but there arent many job here that will have good pay. I like math and working with my hand. Working in an office isn't for me. Always like to create new stuff. I like be a mechanic but somehow im having a feeling that i wanted to go into the medical field. I'm going to a competition in automotive service technology. Its called Skill USA or VICA i believe. They have competition for almost everything. I went last year and won regional and then went to state and got a gold medal, but it was only beginning auto service tech so i dont get far. This year i'm hoping to go to national and see what i can get from there. There is a prize for $25,000 scholarship for winning state. I dont know about national, but I'm aiming for National which would be held in Kansas City, MO.
What do you guys think about trade school like UTI, Wayo Tech, ITT tech compare to Universities. Is it a good thing to go to those school and spend about 1-2 years then start a job. I herd that once you finish school like UTI, that they will just send you to a work place like Jiffy Lube or something like that.

A couple of things to think about:
It's easier to get into an MBA program if you didn't get your bachelor's in business. If you know that you're going to get the MBA anyways, you're probably better off doing your undergrad in something that you're really interested in. You don't always have to get into exactly what you studied in school either. Just be sure to get your undergrad from as good a school as you can get into.
The other thing you need to think about is how much earning potential you have. You might initially get paid more going into IT than accounting or finance, but the earning potential is a lot higher for the finance and some of the accounting guys than most of the IT guys. The salary ceiling is more important than starting salary.

Call up the place you want to go to and ask them these VERY simple 2 questions:
1. Are you REGIONALLY accredited?
2. Are you a for-profit school?
If the answer to 1 is no, then hang up the phone. If the answer to 2 is yes, hang up the phone. Accredited schools are a must. If you go to a non-regionally accredited school you pretty much wasted your time and money. The degree isn't valid anywhere in the United States. You'll see this a lot at religous schools and some of the online schools. A for-profit school is exaclty like it sounds. It's a school owned and operated by a corporation. Univ. Phoenix, AIU, etc.. are all for-profit schools. I worked as a Dean for the 2nd largest online school in the world... and I will tell you right now that your education is a distance second place to the bottom line. I could not in good concience recommend one. They are similar to what you mentioned above in that they boast these super high job placement ratios for their graduates but when it's time to place you in a job they will just stick you anywhere that's "in your field" and call it a day. NOT to mention if you already have a job coming into the university, they will count that in their favor as if they placed you there. DO NOT TRUST JOB PLACEMENT %s from these schools. These are marketing tools that are designed to paint a brighter future..meanwhile they can cost upwards of 60k for a masters degree. This would be the same if you went to Northwestern University.. a private ivy league school.
A degree is only as good as the name of the University or College that gives it out. As stupid as that may sound, it's true. I have 2 degrees already and really the one from USC will be the one I really need. You may learn the world at some crack pot po-dunk school and nothing at Harvard but when its time to be hired the person from Harvard has the upperhand. Name recognition.

My first suggestion is to improve your writing skills. Using slang and IM abbreviations is a sure way for you to not be hired. Recently I had a job opening for a Network Admin. My current Admin suggested one of his friends that lives out of state but willing to relocate. He submitted his resume and it was awful. There was very little content and the organization was poor. No matter how good he might be I could not get over the fact the his resume was so poor. If you do not care enough to provide good content when applying for a job, how well will you do that job?
Second. Do something that you enjoy. There are many people in the IT field that are there because the pay was good to start but they have no passion for the job. They burn out quick.
Third, another poster mentioned Accredidation and for profit universities. I 100% agree with accredidation. I do not 100% agree with his for profit statement. There are many for profit schools that I do not trust. However, even at schools like Harvard you are still not guranteed a good education. I had some completely worthless classes in my Undergrad at the University of Tulsa. I also had some worthless classes for my masters at University of Phoenix. For profit does not always equal bad. A University is only as good as its Faculty. At UOP you are virtually guranteed to have an Instructor that is qualified in the course they are teaching and can relay current expierences. At a standard University you are virtually guranteed that your instructor has not worked in numerous years and relys on textbooks to relay their knowledge.
If you goal is to become wealthy then there are three ways. Listed from easiest to hardest.
1. Win the lottery
2. Have wealthy family members that leave you a large inheritance
3. Work for yourself and bust your but. Or make something really stupid in the Internet and be paid Billions for it. AKA YouTube.
If you are not interested in money then be darned sure to do something that makes you happy.

No but on the real though, play to your strengths and know what you like to do and make that into a career.
I'm 22 and work as an oil refinery operator, industrial fire fighter, and boom boat technician. I got the idea to work in the oil industry from my father, my uncle, and my grandfather. All of whom who have worked in the oil industry for some big name oil corporations. So it's basically been embedded in my mind since I was a little kid.
I only have a high school diploma but I'm considering going back to school while working to obtain a degree in mechanical or chemical engineering. Especially in this day and age, obtaining a degree is the only way to advance in your career.
Just stay true to yourself and get into a field you are really passionate about. Working in the oil field is pretty challenging and dangerous, but there is a lot of technical training involved with a lot to be learned, and it pays fair wages because of the workers union.
