Tuning in Cali / AZ for 3 rotor & Painting shop recommendation
#2
My two recommendations for paint in the Phoenix area would be Finishing Touch up in Fountain Hills or Elite Automotive Finishes in Mesa. Both shops do excellent work and have done RX-7s in the past. As far as tuning goes, Tony at UMS has a lot of experience with turbocharged 2 rotors. Not sure if anyone has experience in Phx with 3 rotors, so Tony would be your best bet as a starting point here in Phoenix.
If you're looking at Cali, I've heard many mention good things about Nelson at Rotary Reliability and Racing. Not sure if he has 3 rotor experience or not. Or, you could just pay to bring Steve Kan in. He has tuned for us several times in the past.

I've talked with UMS and Mazdatrix, and they're quoting around $150/hr for tune. They're also saying "you just never know how long it would take with a 3 rotor". It just seems they'd be charging whatever they want, possibly upto $1000 for the tune. How much would it be bring Steve in? I'm sure we can get at least 3-4 people in AZ to share his skills.

Nelson hats lots of experience with 3 rotors, he is the best. Not only for max power but also for drivability. I had been tuned by steve kan before and had only max power. Nelson retuned my car, i got more max power and also excellent drivability. I would never use any one else.

thanks for all the options guys! It seems like it's a tie between UMS in phoenix, Steve Kan, and Nelson @ RRR. I talked with UMS, but they seem to have very little experience with 3 rotors. I am waiting to hear from Nelson whether he has experience with Microtech. Steve Kan seems to have the longest proven record, but it's a huge logistic headache to get him to tune my car in AZ. errrrrrrrrrrrr dilemma... I too hope Nelson would reply favorably to my question. thanks again!
