Someone hit the 7 and thought it was funny?
Well, I recently got my FD running again, and its been a blast. Got rid of that annoying hesitation when I replaced the fuel pump and everything was leading up to the paint where I can start going to meets and enjoying my car a bit.
Until, that plan was derailed by 4 people in an older white accord.
-- Details...
Driving the car, testing it on the 22 going through the gears at wide open throttle (to about 65-75) making sure the hesitation was gone, and it was. It was about 10pm, and gas was low so I goto a Chevron station to grab a few gallons before I go home for the night.
Pull up to pump 1, go inside, grab a gaterade and put 10 bucksin just to get home and park the beast.
As I approach the doors I see a white accord with about 4 people in, start to back up. I look down at the reciept, just to look at it I guess? lol, and then I hear a loud crash... I look up and sure enough they backed into my passenger's side front fender. :facepalm
As I head twoards the car, I hear.... laughing? The 2 males in the back seats wre laughing as it was some kind of funny Dane Cook joke, I immediately start to feel pissed, but realizing that it would be best to take a "calm" approach I just wanted to get the infomation and call it a night. So I try to go twoards the car waving at them, and sure enough, they take off! I run to my FD and attempt to chase them down, luckily they got caught at a red light not too far down, and I grabbed there lic. plate number. I followed them hoping they would wise up, but after they got on the 22, I decided to go back to the gas station, not knowing where they could be heading could mean worse for me or the car.
Talked with the clerk and he said he saw what happened (Thank god), and the tape picked it up CLEARLY!... Even better. A truck driver in the parking lot was still there (I only followed them for about 5 mins), and he was willing to leave a statement and phone number.
I then call the police and say someone hit my car and took off, when the police get there I give them the story, the clerk and truck driver leave there statements as well. The Lic. Plate ended up going back to the accord so hopefully they still have insurance.
Well thats where I am, things just cant go right for me and my 7, first the mechanic then when I clear that up, now this. I pick up the police report from the traffic division tomorrow or tuesday. If anyone has been through something like this, what happens? If it comes back and they have insurance, do I make a claim with them with the police report? Im going to be researching this but if someone has some feedback that would be awesome!

Well it all depends. My Mom got hit by a chick with no insurance at a Gas Station out in Banning. Cops came, and said they couldnt do anything. we got her information and never saw a dime. Cops let her go on her word after she gave them a big sob story. Kind of BS if you ask me. I just wish you the best of luck.

sucks to hear man. I don't know how it is in CA, but here in Chicago a hit and run = you're screwed. Even if you get the license plate number and everything you're on your own. Cops will write the report but that's it. They can't give you address or anything and won't even both chasing them down. Hopefully everything works out well for you though.

Kind of a long read. But you can press charges for Hit and Run. You have evidence based on the surveillence video from the store and witness accounts of the crime. They are guilty of a misdemeanor offense. !!!
Duty to Stop at Scene of Accident
20001. (a) The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident and shall fulfill the requirements of Sections 20003 and 20004.
(b) (1) Except as provided in paragraph (2), a person who violates subdivision (a) shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison, or in a county jail for not more than one year, or by a fine of not less than one thousand dollars ($1,000) nor more than ten thousand dollars ($10,000), or by both that imprisonment and fine .
(3) In imposing the minimum fine required by this subdivision, the court shall take into consideration the defendant's ability to pay the fine and, in the interests of justice and for reasons stated in the record, may reduce the amount of that minimum fine to less than the amount otherwise required by this subdivision.
(c) A person who flees the scene of the crime after committing a violation of Section 191.5 of, or paragraph (1) of subdivision (c) of Section 192 of the Penal Code, upon conviction of any of those sections, in addition and consecutive to the punishment prescribed, shall be punished by an additional term of imprisonment of five years in the state prison. This additional term shall not be imposed unless the allegation is charged in the accusatory pleading and admitted by the defendant or found to be true by the trier of fact. The court shall not strike a finding that brings a person within the provisions of this subdivision or an allegation made pursuant to this subdivision.
20002. (a) The driver of any vehicle involved in an accident resulting only in damage to any property, including vehicles, shall immediately stop the vehicle at the nearest location that will not impede traffic or otherwise jeopardize the safety of other motorists. Moving the vehicle in accordance with this subdivision does not affect the question of fault. The driver shall also immediately do either of the following:
(c) Any person failing to comply with all the requirements of this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by imprisonment in the county jail not exceeding six months, or by a fine not exceeding one thousand dollars ($1,000), or by both that imprisonment and fine.

Thanks Pertano, te Police did say that they would consider filing charges if they did not release there information. Kind of like a perk. Either pay for the damages (via insurance) or goto jail? xD
To be honest I would prefer both!

I expect they were laughing at their retarded friend's driving, not at you or your car... but yeah, I find it hard to grasp what passes for 'humor' with some people.
Laughter in such circumstances seems to me to indicate a lack of appreciation of consequence; laughter is normally defined as the human response to non-threatening surprise. Sadly, many people are too stupid, or too uncaring, to know when fear should kick in.
The driver should be held both criminally and civilly liable; the whole "we'll charge them IF they don't release their information" is bullshit. Criminal and civil liability run parallel, not either/or.
Harder to get them charged if they're minors, though.

the queers where probably drinking.. somewhat why i hate irresponsible drinking..
back in 03, i was just taking my car around the block, theres a hill with a 3 way stop.. im at the T about to make a left, and this ford econovan cargo van comes flying down the hill and decides hes gonna make a right turn onto my street.. i notice hes coming in fast and realize "oh **** hes gonna understeer".. so i gas it try to move out the way, and he comes straight towards me, hits my rear quarter panel where the rear wheel is in my 240sx. If i didnt try to move he would have nailed me in the door.. We get out, he appologizes, then i walk back to my car and he jumps in his van and takes off... so i jump in my s13 to chase him, fender rubbing into the tire, he takes off fast trying to get away and i write his plate down while im chasing him down this road *that was really hard trying to chase someone while searching for a pen and paper then reading thier plate and writing it down*. We loop around back to the original place of the accident which is also in front of my house.. he stops and says sorry again, and im upset, i start looking for a phone and he books it again... im like **** it I aint gonna chase him again..
Call the cops, they get a helicopter up asap *they waste no time on that*, but they didnt find him.. i report to my insurance, and they say the plate number i gave them is invalid..
so I loose...
Had to do the repairs myself.

Dont worry about it bro, whether they have insurance or not you can take they're *** to the small claims court. Just make sure that you know 2k is the maximum you can get. Hopefully that is no more than you need.

Your story pisses me off just reading it. This is why i want to carry a gun with me.
How awesome would it have been if when you caught up to them, you pulled out a gun and started yelling like a lunatic? Street Vigilance FTW

You guys are idiots for thinking of shooting people or beating them up. Obviously those kids were drunk. Knocking the sense out of them would have done nothing. But I would be tempted to bash in the Accord's doors and windows. The driver's licence will be suspended for a hit n run. Follow up on it. If you have the plate #'s, you can look up their address.
