yeah, the truck rotors were added for me. this was due to the engine builder saying something that he was afraid that the 2 mm seals would fall off the bridge. he felt more comfortable with 3mm seals.

the truck rotors were used because when the engine builder called me after 9 month of building the engine, he told me that I needed to buy new 3mm apex seals, and pay to have the rotors milled for 3mm seals. I told him that that was not going to happen, so the work around was the engine builder gave me truck rotors (which have 3mm seals factory) and some used 3mm seals for the rotors.

to be honest with you, I know I should have the better rotors, but I simply did not feel I should pay more money 9 months later, nor did I feel I should get surprised with a higher bill later in the build. that’s just not how I work. not to mention I had no idea how much longer it would take to wait for the engine builder to have the rotors milled. I guess you could say I got impatient, but I feel I had a pretty good excuse.

as for the water leak, it was explained to me the day I picked up the engine that I would have to drain the block if the engine was going to sit for any period of time. and this is true. if I let it sit, like i did once by accident, the chambers fill up with water. this was a surprise to me.

the oil leak was there from the moment it started, (which with 60 PSI compression, it took a good fast push start to get it running.... after burning up a starter) but the oil leak was not to bad. (bad enough NHRA would not let me run though) it became more of an oil SPRAY after about an hour (total) of running.

Rice, please don’t get upset about what I have stated above. nothing was directed at you, and nothing I said was a lie, or over exadurating the truth. and thank you for being rather cool about everything said lately. we are all simply not impressed with Tom's work. which is rather disappointing, I was really looking forward to a killer engine.

I personally have seen what Tom can do, and I understand he has won many championships with the engines he builds, my guess is that he knows how to build nice engines if he wants to. but in my case, I think the engine had the potential to be a nice engine, but at the last moment it was put together just to get it over with. especially after removing the front cover an seeing the copper washer missing from the front pulley bolt, the dowel pin missing, and the dry gaskets, (along with everything else).

to be honest Rice, I wish I would have just kept all the engine parts, the $1,000, and the couple complete engines I gave him, as I feel I am the one getting the extreme short end of the deal here. but I do not intend to seek a refund, because I know I will never see it. I am just gong to take the hit, and try to move forward. I am sure he will do a MUCH better job on your engine as he has done in the past.

even if that was explained to you, there's no reason for it. the builder should have popped it back apart and fixed the leak. a few more hours of work could have saved his reputation.

oh I agree, it's not like this was somehting that was discussed beforehand. the only thing I was ever asked was "will this engine ever see street use" my reply was "no it will not, it is a race only engine" but no conversations about any water leaks into the intake chambers.

but anyways, it does not matter now, the point of this topic is really not to bash the engine builder. I just wanted to get my story out on the table.

only crappy part is, now I have to figure out once again what I am going to do with this car that is not running..... again. he he, I am sure I will figure something out, I just need to make up my mind. she was so happy as a street car to.

Thanks for the reply. I decided to just buy another one. The big question is: do you have a working FD air pump FS? Or do any of you guys have one for sale? This is the last part before I get my car smogged

ok...explain whats happening? is the motor already in the car, or are they both out, your just trying to get it to go in? either way, the tranny doesnt just slide in like you think..... you have to "wiggle" it around till the splines of the clutch catch perfectly..... its kinda a pain in the ***.. (except for guitarjunkie, but he doesnt count, he's done far too many for it to be difficult)

just take the motor mounts off so you can wiggle the motor around more easily, and take a few extra minutes hooking the chain up properly, so you can send it in at the right angle.
