OMG both of those videos go from awesome to incredible in 2.5 seconds haha. Did that guys motor seize??

As for headers, Corksport says they make god-like headers, which i dont doubt, but 11hp is kinda crazy. I would still love a set if i could afford them.

I would love some Corksports too. I talked to the Corksport guys about that 11hp on a stock series 5 at Sevenstock this year and he said it was legit. But holy cow thats a lot of power from something so simple.

Jason, Jason, Jason........ we've talked about this.
he he he

There is one major problem with a naturally aspirated rotary. there is just not a lot that can be done to improve power significantly.

yes you can add a header but the gain will be marginal. were talking 1-4 h.p. I had the pacesetter header on my RX7 and I really could not tell. one downfall of a header on an N/A rotary is it makes it a bit louder. The pace setter header eliminates the first two cats, so that’s cool. Kills two birds with one stone.

speaking of noise, the N/A rotary is really shut up by its cat. the RX-7 will get VERY loud when you start removing cats. A header and a cat delete pipe = a VERY loud rotary… no joke. I’ve been there.

anyways, back on topic. you can do all the bells and whistles of adding a header, removing the cats, installing an intake, plugs, wires, MSD, flywheel, pulleys.... and you will have only gained 10 maybe 15 h.p. Mazda just simply did a good job extracting the power of these engines. (at least in the N/A second gen and the RX-8)

I am not saying to not do it... really I am not. I had an N/A second gen (several really) and they are fun to build. I am just saying to not expect wonders from them in stock form.

if you do on the other hand want to start producing major power you either need to get a turbo FC, or start looking into porting and other engine internals..... but then you run into the problem of having the 6 port rotary.... they dont take to well to porting..... wrong choice o words, they take fine. they just dont allow a lot of porting.

you want to get wild with an N/A, you need 4 port irons. you want to get wicked, get a peripheral port.

lots of power CAN be made from an N/A rotary, just not realistic in a stock engine, stock ECU second gen.

now in the headers defense, it does help, and every little bit adds up. 1 here 2 there 4 there…… And it does weigh a lot less. The stock manifold is freaking heavy. The header is much lighter then the manifold and the first two cats.

What is your goal with this car?

Haha, thanks
I'm not looking to build a racecar here. In terms of power gains, all I'm looking to do is some sort of exhaust just for fun / noise. Like I said, I'm not building it for autox, just for fun street driving. I know its at its power limit at this point. It would probably be cheaper just to go out and buy a full turbo RX-7 with stock 30 more horsepower than to try and get that 30 horsepower out of my car. All I was wondering about was that header. I think the only two non-suspension mods I will ever do more to this car are a catback and/or header, and thats not really to make more power, more just for fun.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I still have got a lot to learn about these cars.

well then it sounds like you should get the header.

Have you ever heard a N/A with a header and an cat back? its pretty much what I ahd at one time. it sounds good. a little on the noisy side, but not bad. if you enjoy loud cars like I do then you will love it.

if you have that setup and you take out the cat, it get REAL loud. I do not recomend this for street drivign. (even though its what I had for quite some time.... but it came with many tickets).

I dont remember how much the corksport was? how much is it? I think I remember the corksport beign rather pricey. look into the pacesetter if your wanting to do a header on a budget.

no, im presuming he accidentally hit the brakes instead of the clutch (or both)..which is why the engine backfired, and the backend flew up.. drag cars have NO weight in their asses..and their monster sticky tires would easily lift the rear end up in a panic brake

Oh ok. The RB is $250 for steel, $350 for stainless steel. The Corksport is $300 for stainless steel. The Pacesetter is $230, but I don't know what material it is. I'd take the RB over all, since none are CARB certified. That is unless that ceramic coating process is free for Pacesetter (it doesn't specify, it says its an option).

Pacesetters scare me, I'd get the Corksport ones (you know why). I'm sure RB and CS are really similar though.

Edit:

WHERE THE HELL IS WILL?!

^^^^ theres nothing wrong with pacesetter... it may not be "jdm" or extremely popular amongst rx7 peeps... but they are good headers... thats what i had on my na 7, and it was a hand-me-down from like 3 other cars... it held up to many many overheated engines... great product in my book!

I agree.

but for the $30 price difference. I would go with the Racing beat.

when i got my pace setter, it was $110 NEW..... so if the price has gone up, then yeah, go Racing Beat.

That's the first positive story I've heard about pacesetters. I've always been told they can't handle the heat and they crack.

I beat the crap out of mine. High RPMs and such on an engine that naturally runs hot.... never had a problem.

"oh, pacesetter, they suck! a friends friends uncles brother-in-laws son had one, and it cracked on him"...lol....

but as casey said... if they have gone up in price that much, then i wouldnt buy that one either lol... spend a few extra, get the racing beat

Haha thanks everyone! I've already got a good idea as to how to put them on.... since I already installed the exact same springs on Matt's car with him. Hey Matt, if you are able to help me put them on whenever we do it, could you bring any jackstands you can spare? I've only got two, and since we're doing two cars at once, it sure would be nice to have four stands.

Yeah that bottle jack came in handy when we went to slide the rear shocks off the peg at the bottom.
