I really urge you to have three estimates in your hand before you press things with the tow company. With only one in your hand, they stand on good ground to force getting at least a second sending you to one of THEIR shops for a second opinion estimate.
With three in hand (assuming) all close to the same amount, that would weaken that ground substantially in court as to get a fourth (from their buddies shop) could well be argued as unreasonably redundant. One of those "ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" things.

UPDATE 8/21/2008 3:30 arrived..
We went to BOB's towing today at 3:30pm. So ultimately, we have to take it up with the walnut sherriff station.. Evidently, bob towing just works for the police and bobs towing just acts like their biscuit.. they do as they're told..
So I asked what about the damge to my bumper? I argued with the manager, and a few other towers there. They showed me the paper work saying that my bumper was off the car b4 it was towed. I said you guys are liars, and they said no its on this document. I just couldnt believe that all this BS... They also said LOOK ZIP TIES, no BOLTS!!! Isaid thats how I drive daily, theysaid how are you guna drive that on the road and that low, Isaid I just do. He took pix of the zip ties for court i guess.. Damn then he goes look he has awhole bad of zip ties in his car. Pretty much I gave up. I said whatabout my wires, yous ripped it off, they said the least we can do is fix it next week when were not busy, so just come back. I just gave upp......Bobs Towing isnt paying for the damges theyve done to my bumper.I told em you guys are shady as hell. And the manager is like yeah My busness is fucken fucked up, and Isaid yeah. He said we just want to take your money, and Isaid I betcha you do. The other towers said yeah we collect your money. The manager said I hope you get pulled over again by chp and comeback to us so I can takemore of you rmoney. I said OMG are you kidding me, you guys are fucked up. So i just got my car out and left.
Tmrw im guna go to court to file the claim for the sheriffs station and possible bobs towing. I hate that place..

took my car home, put it in the garage. Decided im not guna drive it much anymore.. too much hassle.. just guna borow my ex gfs car til she gets her license..

Daniel just take it easy and document everything and when time allows(don't take too long) file proper paper work and use the proper channels to make sure you come up on top of this B.S. Rotary FTW.

The Towing Company guys are simply taking an offensive approach to try and keep you from filing small claims against them. As another said, take your time, collect your evidence, and file the claim. Bring the friend that helped you install your front bumper to court to confirm the zip tie claim was bs.

I assume since you're still in school you're pretty young. The people working at the towing company/police station think they could push you around and get away with it. And in most cases, they probably could.
It's easy for us on the internet to tell you to fight the power and take it to court. But you're probably busy with work, school, and other bs you have to deal with. Sometimes going through the right procedures is just too much work.
I say just burn that place down. Explosives can easily be made with stuff you can get from your local OSH and chemist stores. Do some research on Google, and with the amount of money you would have needed to spend for small claims, you could build yourself some bombs and **** those bastards up.
