Ricks Performan Rotary at Pleasanton CA

Rotorsports in Campbell closed a couple of years ago. Paul had significant personal and business problems that caused his customer's great pain. There are many who had to take their half-finished cars elsewhere.

rotorsport is open, and is now called rotorsport2.
it is on el camino real, near san thomas, in sunnyvale.
i know some people have had problems with paul at rotorsport, and he's had a checkered past.....however, i've gone to him numerous times and have always been a satisfied customer. he knows rx7's quite well, and he knows race car prep....he's done a lot of detail stuff for free for me.
i've also had exemplary service from mike at mr.mazda.
i'm quite informed and do a lot of work myself as well, so maybe its harder to "fool" me.
my only true bad experience has been using the mazda dealers.
i think if you ask enough people, you'll here horror stories about every shop....ivan, ricks, mr.mazda, etc. your best bet is to develop a good working relationship with one or two of these shops and go with that. don't expect miracles for free in one hour....i think thats the quickest way to get screwed.
good luck

Rick's Rotary
We just picked our FD3 today from
Rick. We had it in his shop cuz it could not pass
the Smog test.
Rick performed the diagnostic and fixed a
loose hose, and grounded a wire so the
fan will stay on. He gave me us a referral to his
smog person who knows how to smog rotaries.
He's very knowledgable and honest.
I m happy with his work (2 times now).
At $ 90 and hour for his expertise is cheap
cuz the regular auto mechanics charges $ 90+ !!!

Yeah, Rick may know his **** but.... When I know of two different people who know just as much if not more and charge WAY less then that. There's no way I'd pay those prices. I have heard that Rick does excellent work though so I am in no way trying to talk bad about his shop or his work. Just saying that he's over priced IMO.

for me, if its quality work then its priceless.. up to a point like said above $125 for some dealerships then goin to rick's would be cheaper. although i never went to him for service, i did call him once for an oil leak.. fixed it myself. but for smog, that might be another issue. i might consider to have him work on my rx7 someday

Rick the *****.... I went there because I was in need of a TB.. he looked at me an said "those don't go bad"... thats all he said(with an additude). figured if he didnt have one to sell he might know someone who did... but it was as if i was waisting his 90.oo an hour. I will never go back... but then again I can do pretty much all my own stuff

but those never go bad!
i'm sure he deals with a bunch of punk kids who waste his time though, just sucks that it seems he treats most anyone with a simple question that way but then again time is money and sometimes i do get irritated when people start spending my whole day asking little questions while i am trying to earn a days pay to pay the bills.

the first link was a deadend. I haven't dealt with Rick, though I have called and talked to him. I'm more of a PR Motorsports fan, Rick and his crew ain't affraid to talk or give advice at random times.

i say go to ricks, ive never personally dealt with him but besides his waittime, ive heard nothing but good. On the other hand, ive heard a bad story or two about the shop in sunnyvale, and even after paying them and everything the car was still fucked up. It took like another 3k just to fix what them "fixed". But then again everyone has their off days...
