Re-introduction of Ricardo Porta aka Porta Power Ports

He has been building and modifying rotarys since the R100 came out. He has spent his entire adult life dedcated to building rotarys with Pro7, Rally, and other racing. One of his many accomplishments was his Periphial ported 12a R100 that beat BMW's M1 debut in 1970. He is by far the most knowledgable person I've known about the rotary engine. Also everything about the chassis/interior/electrical in all RX models.

I am mentioning all this because I received a phone call from him that he will have to "hang it all up". The race circuits have been quiet for too long and not much building is needed in that field. And since his concentration has been in race, he is not known in the domestic non race scene. This is my attempt to kick start it for him in the domestic market so to speak. I know there are a few great builders, but none like him. I have never seen any other builder with his experience, knowledge, and capabilities before. His expert knowledge spans from the R100 to the RX7-RX8. Most builders today weren't old enough to modify an R100 in its debut.

Lol, for those that know I work at Neptune Speed as Yoshi's accountant, I also promote Ricardo because I am a true rotary loyalist and we all should always have options and choices with different builders. He's built my motor because I prefer carburetor over EFI and management systems and Yoshi doesn't tune carburetors. And Ricardo knows his carburetor as well as EFI. Fris-Lucky 7, Louie-RRR, Yoshi, JRX and Ricardo are all great rotary builders (sorry if I excluded the rest but these are builders that I've seen their builds), but the owners of the rotarys have better connections with one of them and not the other. So again, this is just another option in the mix above and not to take away builds from any of them. They each have their specialties and each is great in their area of expertise. But if your need is a quick turn around and you aren’t already loyal to a builder yet, Ricardo has done a rebuild as quick as 2 days, depending on if he has the parts in stock you need. Even his budget builds are known to last well over 100K miles. Obviously he can do any port including his own design (which I have).

There are a few of us on this forum that already know of and go to Ricardo but we don't talk about him much. He is so good and the prices can't be beat that we tend to keep it secret. I know because I've met a few of them and they never mention his name on this forum. I know those people I'm referring to may not like this post but think about it, if he retires, who will we call and turn to when we need a tune or adjustment here and there with that friendly welcoming voice with an accent. His location is kinda hard to get to, but once you know it, its well worth it.

You can call him at 661-255-3537 Ricardo Porta. He sleeps early (9pm) but wakes up early 7 days a week. ps. he doesnt like to be called Mr. Porta.

Unofficial word about Neptune Speed/Garage RX

A brief word on NeptuneSpeed and Yoshi… Ken and I heard rumor that the talk is that Yoshi’s builds turn around time is too long. Yes that’s true. Yoshi is a quiet person and doesn’t speak about issues so I will respect that. But what I can tell you from the accountants’ perspective is that over the past 3 years, the rotary customers for the most part are great. But unfortunately there are some bad apples. He may have loss some motivation in the rotarys due to the fact that he’s dealt with people skipping out on the bill to bouncing checks. He is also too nice because another popular thing that’s being done is when it comes time to pay the bill, after the car is released back to them, they re-negotiate the quoted price. And most times he gives in because he really needs to get paid so that he can pay for the parts purchased. As a matter of fact, I know of 2 people that went to Lucky 7 to get work done, and they still have an outstanding bill with Neptune. No names as Yoshi does not want to pursue this matter, but this ain’t right either. Again, this is no excuse nor is it an official statement from NeptuneSpeed.
