question for military rotary owners

Yeah, it's not active duty, it's a Reserve Detatchment or something. It's a small Comm Unit. Vandenburg is near Lompoc. Edwards isn't so bad, but it is in the middle of the dessert, so it gets really hot during the day, and really cold at night. The only real problem with the base is that you're about an hour drive from normal civilization. So if you want to hit up a club in LA, you'd have to drive for over an hour to get there, and then you have to drive back. Unless of course you get a hotel room.

There is an air foce reserve installation in san diego, not sure exactly where it is but they have at least a few active duty personell. I know this because they used to come to mirimar to train, and I spoke with some of them.
there is also March AFB, a reserve base about ~80 miles from san diego in riverside.

Uh, Beale? No thanks, HAHA. I've actually never heard anything bad about Beale since Tech School, of course I've never heard anything good about it either, haha.

This place really isn't that bad once you're off work. I live just outside of Sacramento so I have the city. Wine country is ALL OVER THE PLACE around here. And I fight out of a gym that has 3 World Champions. So all in all I'm very happy.
Not to mention that NorCal 7's is a GREAT club. I have put in a ton of work/effort to get it where it is and I'm proud of the club that myself and the other 4 core members created.

^Oh I know, I'm not knocking it. I don't drink so the wine thing doesn't really matter to me, but it would still be nice to have the opportunity, haha. And I'd love to join the club. I'm just thinking again now about applying for the Army again. I put in paperwork last year for conditional release from the AF so I could switch over and fly helicopters as a Warrant Officer, and my commander and everyone signed off on it until it got to AFPC, they denied it because my shop here at Pope was so undermanned. OK, then why the **** did my COMMANDER sign off on it?! And with this whole BRAC thing anyway, this may be the time to do it.

I was stationed at March for the last 6 years! BRAC changed that! Beale is a nice base, and the air in NorCal is soooo clean compared to Socal. I was thinking about switching over the the Army to be a helicopter pilot too, I had a blast when the guys at Los Alamitos picked me up in a Blackhawk to do some inspections for them.
It looks like plenty of you guys are in the maintenance field. So what does everyone do anyways?

I'm putting together my WOFT package also, assuming thats what your doing.
But I'm comming from real Military (AKA Marine Cops).
JK, I am a contractor right now on an Joint program, and the Air Force has been consistently the hardest to please, I have nothing against the people in uniform, but some of the AF contractors and Govy's are down right stupid.

I was in the Air National Guard, just got out this past December. I was NDI Non Destructive Inspections, so it's safe to say that I pretty much don't work. :P
I can attest to SLO's comment about govy's, they don't really think sometimes. As far as pleasing the Air Force, I was a pretty lenient supervisor. I felt that as long as you got the job done, and done right, I've got no problems.
As far as BRAC goes for March, the first time BRAC hit, I was in 8th grade and all the active duty guys left, leaving the base a Guard/Reserve base. BRAC reared it's ugly head again this past June, eliminating the Air Guard Refueling Wing, and converting them into a Predator Wing. So a lot of people lost jobs and had to relocate. The sad part about it is that, because these people are full time Air Guardsmen, they didn't just lose a base, they lost thier jobs. Active Duty people just get sent to another base, Guard people either have to move or lose their primary means of income.
