^Damn, that's alright! That's alot of tracks. I have to go to VIR, 2+ hours away to hit the nearest track here. Global Hawk huh? I worked with the Predator back in 98-00 when I was stationed at Nellis. Gotta love UAVs, not a lot of work, haha. It was SOOO laid back with the Predator.

It's the same thing here. Monday - Friday day shift only. All holidays are usually joined with an "ACC family day" giving us 4 day weekends. I have never even heard of a unit being this slack in my entire career! I had to transfer to the support section just to have any work to do. But on the good side, it leaves me a TON of time to work on our 7's and to stay in the gym.

Yeah, I grew up in cali. Dont want to go back. Since I am getting old and am about to retire, I want another overseas tour. Hawaii was the only thing open for my AFSC (2A5X3C, ECM heavies). I REALLY want Yokota, but it wasnt open.

You Mean the CHAIR FORCE.
I was born and raised in cali, joined the chair force in 00 and was stationed in Charleston, great place, lots of rotary guys around there upstate as well. Except you can't leave your sunroof open in the day and go in to take a nap for an hour cause you'll hear thunder, (not latino thunder, -Boosted-) and have to run back to the car while it's down pouring, then by the time you walk out side the rain stops, and it does this on the dot about every 5 days.
Winter is cold and icy
summer is hot and humid
I got out almost a year ago, I still have carolina plates with a 2 year reserve ID. Here in cali when it's summer it's hot and you can't escape it sometimes, and then when it's cold it's a dry, shock yourself as you exit your car, can't feel your fingers when filling up, man I shoulda wore those long johns today kinda cold.
Fall and spring in both areas are just peechy good, but anywhere has it's ups and downs.
I have to say Cali has more RXs that group in large numbers, like sardines in a can.
happy choices

I definitely understand hot and humid summers (and I don't like it), in Okinawa it was crazy. Here in NC isn't great either. I thought Cali had more moderate temps though year round?

The temps in NorCal are hot. But the humidity is very low so it's not bad like it is in NC and SC. But hot is hot when you are getting in your car after it's been sitting in the sun for a few hours.
Latino Thunder? I didn't know you still posted on these forums vato loco!! Glad to see you here again.

^Yeah and I've been contemplating on turning mine from MB to BB. Not sure I wanna do that cause of the heat, haha. And last fall my A/C started blowing luke warm, so hopefully I'll just recharge the system. It never really worked that great to begin with, so maybe I'll just rip it out altogether.

How was Eglin? I have that one on my list too. I liked Ramstein too, never been stationed there though, just passed through. Didn't like Osan much though, once again, only there for a week for an exercise.

I'm in a rush so I wasn't able to read all the comments. I just wanted to put my 2 cents in. I don't think you have to change your plates. A friend of mine has Oregon plates and was stationed at Edwards for 4 years. He's never had a problem, even when he gets pulled over.
As far as emissions go, they aren't as hard as people make it seem. I run with no cats on my 7 and I've had no problems. The only thing you have to do is swap your stock exhaust system in before smogging the vehicle. When that's done, put the performance stuff back in. Most intakes are legal in California. It would be even easier if you have smog hook-ups, then you wouldn't have to do any of that stuff.
I've never ran into problems getting my base sticker for any new vehicle. All they require is proof of insurance, a drivers license and registration. New vehicles don't need to be smogged.
As soon as I posted, I saw you were thinking of Ramstien. Ramstien has got to be one of the best bases in Europe!! I had a blast there! The people are really friendly and they love Americans. The food is okay, you have to make sure the meat is cooked thoroughly because of Mad Cow. You should definately consider going to Ramstien, it's a huge base, and there are about 3 other US Military bases in that area.

Don't jinx him!!!! The AF and Northrup are going to Grand Forks this summer to do a site survery for the Global Hawk program. I need to hurry and get back to AMC before I get orders to North Dakota. I don't think that's a very "rotary friendly" environment.

getting a base sticker is not hard .. not in mcas miramar in san diego at least. its a good base. quite alot of rotaries. i didnt really need to smog my car at all cause the lance cooly didnt care so i guess it depends on whos giving you your sticker.

There actually is an AF unit in San Diego. Unfortunately it's a very small reserve base. When I say small, I mean SMALL! There's only a handfull of people there, I wouldn't even call it a base. The nearest and only, real active duty base in So Cal is Edwards. Trust me, you don't want to be stuck there either!
