Petition to abolish the front license plate law!

SIGN IT !!!!!!!!!

http://www.petitiononline.com/caplate/petition.html

I personally agree with what this petition says. Take a moment, and consider
signing yourself. I know there are other reasons this law exists besides hassleing
"sports cars", but we all need to take in to factor how much it is actually used
for that other purpose not stated above.

Do you even know why else this law exists? Sign the petition!!!!!!

Several years ago when I lived in Colorado they were considering doing away with the front plate law. In the middle of the whole thing there was a hit and run accident where somebody was killed and they found the perp because his front plate fell off after the collision. Needless to say they kept the law. I now live in AZ where we have no front plate law so it doesnt matter to me any way now.

It exists because of Photo Radar, photo bridge/road toll, and Photo stop lights.

It is a revenue stream for the cities and counties in CA.

^^^yup, it's all bout that revenue. Anyone know where all the money goes? Our roads are horrible and I'd be interested to know how the cities are spending our tax $$.

My deal: put the plate back on and avoid getting pulled over. Being rebellious will only yield tickets and in the long run it's not worth it. I decided/was coerced to drill mine on there just to avoid the hassle.

I hate how it looks but now the cops have LESS ammo to use against me.

I'm sure you can find a hinged plate holder so it props it up when stationary or at low speeds and then just folds at higher speeds so, if you DO have an FMIC/don't want to put it in the way of the airdam, it won't be detrimental to performance.

also: "we don't care if the newer cars don't have the front plates. Every car should have them and if they don't we'll pull them over, whether or not the dealership sells the car without them."-Police woman on a power trip while I was getting my ticket signed off and wouldn't sign until I drilled my bumper on the spot. .

I've had no front plates on any of my sevens. Got pulled over once though... a friend in his 240 and me were driving, and an out of the area cop pulled us both over. Out of instinct we both told him the same damn thing.

"It fell off!"

idk, the only time ive been hassled about not having a front plate is when i was caught doing something i shouldnt have been, but with not enough proof to be charged with it

i support the front license plate law as it helps easier identify cars in hit and runs, chases, and whatever other illegal activities it can be used for

if you dont want to face the consequences of a fix it ticket, just throw the plate on there, otherwise know what you could be getting yourself into and accept it before you get caught

seriously, it's called democracy.
Did you not vote in the primaries because the candidate you want to win probably won't? You're political values are a little screwed up.

But I don't care if you sign, it's your choice. So don't!

To everyone else........keep them coming!
like it said in say petition, X(cant remember the number) of states have already gotten rid of this law.

it takes petitions like this and people working together to overturn our govt.

well i wouldn't say that they've gotten rid of the law. a lot states never had it to begin with....

what exactly is the argument for having the law removed? if there's no good rationale then the law isn't going anywhere.

EDIT: I took some time and read the petition. Here's are my comments:

1. eliminating the need for a front license plate will significantly reduce the state costs associated with production, storage, and shipping.
Fair enough argument. $ is a big issue for cali right now. The question is whether or not it outweighs the public safety issue. I don't know the answer to that.

2. a front license plate restricts the performance of passenger vehicles.
that will get the petition nowhere. law makers don't care about that. When I read this, I immediately thought less of the petition. It just sounds like a bunch of high schoolers. It'd be wiser for the petition owner to rephrase this statement into a gas/energy saving issue rather than an "performance" issue.

3. unnecessary damage is sustained from minor bumper-to-bumper collisions, because the front mounting brackets on passenger cars can cause cracks and abrasions to the rear bumpers of the cars that they hit.
I'm not sure i believe that. where's proof of this? Politicians would say that that is why you have insurance on vehicles. to cover these costs. I would say that the damage caused by this thus entails more jobs. More damage = more people to repair/fix issues. Besides, I'm not even sure this is a factual remark.

4. police officers will be more productive in stopping dangerous motor vehicle violations such as drunk driving, reckless driving, speeding, etc., because their time won't be compromised by a California motorist who simply didn't have a front license plate on display.
Moot point. Police offers are charged with UPHOLDING THE LAW. ... regardless if you think it's minimal infraction or not. I would argue that by not having a front license plate on a vehicle the driver is 1) violating the law 2) more likely to be violating other laws.

I'm not sayijng that a petition of this nature couldn't work....I'm saying this one will not in its current language.

dood, it's just a license plate, it's not like our rights are in any more danger then after 9/11.

I'm only pessimistic when I don't see real substance to the argument. Front license plate is not one of my top priorities when it comes to bitching about the govt.

Grimple FTW.

I'm a firm believer in picking your battles. This one isn't worth it IMO.

There is some logic to this remark. I moved from a state without front plates, as did my girlfriend who parks her car in the street so that my FD can be safe, and it's remarkable how quickly she obtained dings, scuffs, and paint chipping on her rear bumper from people with front plates bumping into her (usually the screws are the culprits). Mind you, this has all occurred since I got my FD back last summer and much of her car, including her rear bumper, had been freshly repainted by PJ Bonifacio. My best friend, who also moved here from a state without front plates and often parks in the street in his neighborhood, quickly experienced the same. If there were no front plates, these little "love taps" could happen without consequence.

Still, petitioning the state to remove front plates is hilarious.

Yea, the patriot act did take a lot of our rights away. That should provoke you even more to fight for smaller stuff!!!! "Give them an inch and they'll take a mile." That quote seems even more suitable here. Very few Americans even vote in their state elections; I'm just saying, fight for something you believe in no matter how big or small.

I did not wright the petition, but I do agree with their purpose, so no matter how poorly they put their point across I will support it.

I just want to say that I do appreciate your critsizm, it's nice to have an argument without it turning into a bunch of slandering.

again, license plates aren't in my top 20 things to fight for in life.

Optimism and Idealism is great until you realize nothing changes. Some would call me a pessimist while the majority that understand me call me a realist.

Rather than fight the small issues, I'd be more interested in fighting for real problems in our society. Education, health care for children and elderly, better use of our tax dollars, more focus on violent crimes in the inner cities by increasing police presence and improving neighborhoods from the inside OUT, etc., etc.

The license plate will only make our cars look nicer but the real problems in life will surround and engulf us. Who's going to care about license plates when our educational system deteriorates to the point of illiteracy. Can you believe most High school graduates can't read or spell at a 9th grade level? If allowing kids to graduate without a foundation seems less important than license plates then that's your POV. I'd drop my name address and SSN for a petition that will have a real impact in our community, just not for a license plate revocation petition.

I don't mean to **** on you cornflakes but I just don't see what the problem is with the plates, well, besides aesthetics.
