Pictures to prove it happened
First, a note to Mel. I heard about why you weren't able to make the meet and my thoughts are with you. See you at the meet next month (see below). We need more old fart, uh, school RX representation
This turned out to be a Miata dominated meet. Not surprising as I learned that the local Miata Club Board meets there every 3rd Friday of the month.
So here's the deal. This is a realtively new Mazda dealership, and they are wanting to show a broad support for the Mazda community so they stand out from the rest. Speaking to their General Manager, they are offering:
- Deep discounts on factory parts, identical if not lower to prices Malloy Mazda on the east coast provides, to those that participate in at least one of their monthly meets and remember to register for that benefit while there. Talk to Marco, Parts Manager or Caroline (?), Service Manager.
- Going forward, every Third Saturday of the month starting at 11AM to as late as 4PM they are opening up their front lot for an all things Mazda meet, and are especially interested in seeing Rotary as show of support to what we all know is the core spirit of the Mazda brand. Beyond offering a place to meet they will provide:
1. Free food. Today it was 20 huge Pizzas, but the Manager said if we want Bar BQ and Burgers and perhaps even Carne Asada, they'll provide all that too.
2. Free soft drinks.
3. If you get there a bit early and you didn't get a chance to wash your car, they'll give free car wash's to I would guess the first 10 that ask. If you miss that cut off, you may still get one if you first mention how beautiful their new dealership is. It actually really is.
4. I asked if there were any plans for car show type models in hot pants. He laughed, but he didn't say it would never happen.
Todays meet was actually a dry run to this end (see cell phone camera pictures below). There were two 1st Gens (one was a very well done Oxymoronmobile, see first picture), my 2nd Gen, two 3rd Gens, and 4-6 RX8's. Sadly, ZERO OLD SCHOOLS!!. Considering the short notice and cloudy skys (Glen you were missed), not all that bad I would say. But not good enough!!!
Sidebar, there was a representitive from one of the car magazines (I think it was Motor Trend) who lives locally. He has a built RX8 track car that I twisted his arm to bring to the next meet on December 15th. And I would not be surprised if he demonstrated some writers love for the right car(s) at some future meet.
NEXT PUENTE HILLS MEET IS SATURDAY, DECEMBER 15TH. BRING YOUR CAR AND YOUR APPETITE.
AGAIN, PLAN ON THIS HAPPENING EVERY 3RD FRIDAY OF EVERY MONTH GOING FORWARD. Like 7Stock, all you have to do is show up.
