NorCal7 April Meet
Ok, here's the new thread.
Bert, are you sure that it's $50 a person for the go karts? Is that for all day or something? It seems crazy expensive if it's just for one race. Can you either check with the track to find out for sure or give me the number and I'll call and check? That way we know if that's where we want to go or not. Time to speak up everybody!! Let's hear what you want at the next meet. And let's set a date while we're at it. I was thinking Saturday April 16th, how does that sound to everyone?

Go karts sounds fun but 50 dollar seems a bit steep and may scare off some potential group members. April 16th sounds fine with me, I never have a schedule.
I think it would be more fun/affordable to attend an Autocross in stockton, it's only 35 bucks for 3 timed runs and fun runs are usually 5 so if you wanna try to drift you can

I just checked the solo2/autocross schedule for the SF region group. There is going to be an event held on April 16th at the San Joaquin Fairgrounds. 35 for non SCCA members 25 for SCCA members. They loan helmets so you don't necessarily need one unless you have a thing about hygiene. Here is a link to the Event Information

The AutoX sounds like a great idea Jake. Good find. What does everyone else think? I know that all of the AF people that came with me this past time will be at the AutoX if we go to that one.

*argh* but yea, it's 50 for two races and a race for pole.
If it's the auto-cross, my car won't be ready, so I'll just be cruisin' with the alty this next meet. Can't expect much from my car right now >_<. But yea, I'm still in, just without my car.

I vote auto-x. Never done it via SCCA before though, so I found this link:

My only question so far is do "newbs" have to work the course? I really wouldn't have any idea on what to do. Anyone been before and know what's required?

Also, I oppose the idea of RPM. While it's good fun and all, it's heinously expensive for what it is, and the price would scare away several people.

It looks like everyone is in Favor of the autocross so I say we make this thing official
p.s.- i got some good news in the mail on saturday. last year when I got in a wreck in my first FC i was supposed to get 4000 dollars, but they took the deductable out from that which was $1000 and the other insurance company was supposed to pay that, well it had been so long that we had forgotten about it, so much to our surprise a check for 1000 bucks came and it's alllll mine Lightened flywheel, car payment, and PFC here I come

Yep, check out that link I posted -- it's got all the info. One other thing I'm not too sure about is exhaust noise level. Are they really strict on that? I've never had the noise levels on any of my cars measured, but they are up there as I'm sure are many others. It would suck to go all the way out there only to not pass tech due to a excessively loud exhaust.

Last time i was there there was an SR20DET Trueno that blew my eardrums so i don't think there are any sound limits. Its not really close to like houses or anything and it happens on the weekend. I'm almost certain there are no noise restrictions and if there are they seem to be rather high.

Autocross Info:
Hey guys,
I can answer some of your questions and concerns about autocrossing w/SCCA...I ran both that series and the American Auto-x series for about 4 years.
Yes you have to work for 1 group. Street tire runs in the first group, and works the second. Working is easy and very cool as you get to see race cars, good drivers and good technique from a few feet away.... you will learn a lot!
Fun runs (time permitting) are 1$ / lap.
Beginners will be teamed with experienced track workers to tell you what to do.
You won't be the loudest there, there are race cars sharing the circuit with our slow street legal cars.
If you haven't tried this yet, you'll find out just what a shitty driver you are when you compare times with a good driver in the same class. I learned a HELL OF A LOT about how to control my car at its limit in my '91 T-II autocrossing. If you keep doing these events and take the time to listen to better drivers, learn about correct lines, apexes, breaking, and not upsetting your car's chassis, you will be a lot better and SAFER driver.
As far as car prep goes, check out the beginner links as shown above for tips. Inflate tires about 10 psi higher than normal to avoid rolling one over on cornering. My T-II ran best with 39 rear and 41 front on Dunlop SP8000's. A motorcycle helmet that meets Snell requirements is adequate. (better than using the loaners IMO.)
I haven't run any events this year yet, but I think I'll make this one. If anybody wants advice that morning, get there early and I'll help as much as I can.
If anyone is really nervous about their first runs, I can ride along and help with navigating and some advice, or let you ride shotgun in the FD...
I will warn you that this is addictive. I did it for 4 years until we lost Mather and McClellan as sites. Stockton fairgrounds is a smaller site but good for beginners. I think I might just come out of retirement on the 16th....

Hell yeah I want advice. Hahaha someone riding shotgun telling me what to do would kick ***. Imma get there pretty early then. I just hope those shitty Firestones I have on the back will grip I know the ts-1's up front will, but don't want the *** sliding out on a corner =/

i learned a bit about lines when working our autocrosses at DeAnza, unfortunately though it takes practice driving your own car and getting to know how it will react during tight cornering. never done it in my FC yet so it will definitely be a learning experience.
why can't you compete Zach?

whoa....autoX im down...just fired up the rebuild today and it sounds like a friggin v8...i think i need to do some tuning. Anyways im down for the autox, it would be at the stockton fairgrounds anyways right?

Yup.
Yeah, I was sad to hear about McClellan & Mather myself and I didn't even go regularly. I had planned on starting up though, but going all the way to Stockton makes it difficult.
Hey Bob, you mentioned street tires running first. Do cars with race tires/slicks run in a different class or something? I'm trying to decide if I should bring the 13x8 Revolutions for the RX-2 or not, fitting that all in the car may be difficult. They're a bit worn too, so I'm not sure if it would make things better or not.

Ben, I can't run because of my wastegate issue. That and the fact that my factory suspension is SHOT!! I wish I could run. That and the fact that I have studs snapped off of both my rear wheels doesn't help either.
