Yeah, we bought a place in Cabo (That I have only been able to get to once in the last 3 months) but then I have been thinking about selling the house in RP and moving to Boise or some cheaper town in Wash state. The money we would make form selling the RP house would more than pay off a new place in Boise or Wash State, and we would both retire, just living in Cabo part of the year and where ever we land the other part of the year.
But it looks like I am at least a year away for that. I just took over as the Facilities Manager at the Charles M Schulz Museum up in Santa Rosa. The offer was just too good to turn down.
But it is nice to be back to a 8 hour day and 5 day work week, instead of what I was doing for Hearst and the SF Chronicle (which was 14 hour days- 6 days a week and 800+ miles of driving per week).

I mean, not like we get to hang out all that often really but still, it'd make me sad.

I have started the business plan, but you know I like starting or fixing businesses, getting them on track and then selling them or turning it over to someone else once I have done the leg work getting them running right.
Its just living in Cali is just so expensive. You know I can retire at 45 by moving out of the area, or I can stay here and work.

Well the other option is maybe next year, that I will open up a indoor Go Cart place in RP. I have the location all picked out and had my real estate agent get in contact to see what I can buy or lease it for. I could give Nador a job, so that he wouldn't keep running out of money then.

And yes Rohnert Park has the bay area cost of living issues.
But as an example, outside Boise, you can buy a 3000sqft house on 2 to 3 acres with a 3 or 4 car garage for around $250,000- $300,000.
Hell, selling my house today, (even with the market tanked) just my profit from when I bought it would be over $300,000... that doesn't include everything that I put down when I bought it.
So I could sell my house in RP, buy a huge lot and house pay it off, and still have (not including savings and retirement and 401K and the like- just the money from the house) a couple hundred thousand left.
How well can you live on a couple hundred thou without any mortgage or rental or nothing? Well alone savings and retirement funds.
That is why I am real big on paying everything off.

Yeah, my wife has been driving up to Chico a couple day a month as part of her job. She says its nice.
Been there myself... my ex wife drove us to bankruptcy and then again for nearly a second time, but I divorced her- but still had to sell my house at that 2nd time; just to pay the bills.

If you ever get a chance to come up to Chico with your wife you should give me a ring and we can all grab a bite to eat, number of good restaurants up here.

Two words: Real Estate
That is the only way to be well off. If you can save enough to get into a Condo or purchase an apartment- do it! Figure a way, because that is the only way to make real money and have something that always will be a cushion.
The other two words are: Big *****
On my last 3 contract jobs, I told them it would cost them an arm and leg to hire me for 6 months to fix what they wanted fixing. I BS'd them saying I could do it, (never having done the job they actually wanted me to do- but I had done something somewhat similar) and then did what they wanted.
But you gotta have Big ***** to tell them that you want that Arm and leg in the first place- and I secretly think that if you toss out a number so large, that they think they gotta have you; just because they think someone else would pay you that, or you wouldn't be telling them that is what you need to work for them.
But almost everything I make goes to either my Daughters College Fund, Retirement funds or Real estate.
Because I didn't save **** when I was younger.
Here is another hint to help in life:
Don't marry until you are at least 30 years old and if you do marry, make sure she makes good money. I am not BS'ing you on that. Live by it.

If you need your problems fixed... you need me. I am available for a limited window of 6 months right now, and this is going to cost you this much for me to fix.
Sure you can get someone cheaper, but are you sure they can do the job? or you could have someone you have in house do it... how's that worked out so far for you?
and leave it at that.
Like I said attitude of Big *****. See in my case that stuff that the High school counselor and first wife told me was going to screw me up for life (being too cocky and sarcastic) actually is what made me good money for the last 5 years.

Damn that place in Cabo sounds nice, I have been working and even looking at buying a place in Petaluma... as there is no way I am going to buy something here in San Rafael.. way too over priced.
Another option would be to buy a condo/appt then rent/buy a small little garage store my goodies in.. but the house just seemed an overall better long term investment.
Ive been going back and fourth but I am pretty sure I was going to go for the house and for now while I have no girlfriend or time to be home rent out other rooms to people. Have them help me pay the house off (and hopefully not trash the place haha) while I work my *** off for years to come.
Also Mark your idea of the indoor go-karting in RP I think would go along quite well. I have been driving up to Sac to play around at RPM. I know there is one in the east bay but I didn't like the track too much and they were more expensive...
