I'm pretty sure a RX7 specific track day will be VERY expensive. Plus, seeing that the majority of RX7 owners in the bay are on a low budget, I doubt renting the track will be reasonable.
There are test days almost every week, that you can pay and drive. I'll have to check which days will allow street cars and the costs. Most test days are race-car specific only (which isn't a problem for me, but most of you guys won't be able to register).

haha at most of barotary's track days everyone brings their non rotary lol. sorry to be a downer but filling up a track day with all rotaries will be close to impossible in the bay area (either people cant afford it, cars arent ready, cars broken, insert excuse).

True, but Jai's a stand up guy. he works there and I have no problem trusting him with a deposit up front before a date a is set. I think if we had a list of bare minimum 60 guys willing to do the same it would be a cake walk from there. Come on dude, I know you go to most of the track days in NorCal IL2ER, and you have a decent group that you go with. If we put our minds to it, and people who are serious really pitched in, don't you think it would happen?

To be honest, I don't think so. I've been a RX7 member here in the Bay Area for over 10 years, and I still don't think I can count 60 RX7 members who would be up for a track day. Not all together during the same time of the year. Like Stan said, there's always so many excuses for people to bail out last minute. And I'd hate to hold onto thousands of dollars while promising a track day but never have one. There's plenty of Thunderhill track days and it's not very far away.
As for the test days, they range from $200+ depending on the amount of sessions and days you want to run. But what does that matter? I'm sure the majority of you guys have "street cars", which aren't allowed to run on the same test days as the rest of the field (F1 cars, race cars, GrandAM cars, etc..).
I was just hoping to have a meet. Not a track day. We can meet up here at Infineon, BBQ at the shop, and walk over and watch a track event with the race cars. A RX7 track day isn't possible with the amount of money and members we have here. Keep on dreaming..

Trackmasters was here just a few weeks ago, and there was 3 FDs, 1 FC, and 2 SA/FBs here. One FD had an LS6 and one SA/FB had a chevy 350. Really quick and awesome race cars.
But who knows. I don't think people want to pay anything over $200 for a track day when they could go to ThunderHill for ~$120. Thunderhill is also a great track will plenty of turns (both camber and off camber). Just a simple meet would be better. Trying to get ahead of ourselves will hurt any future possibilities of any group event.

How can you go to Thunderhill for $120? I never seen that price before. I prefer Infineon and Laguna Seca over Thunderhill, I am willing to pay the extra money to go to those 2 tracks. If you do the math, going to Thunderhill will costs about the same as Infineon or Laguna Seca, because at Thunderhill there is a lot more straight, so your car use more gas and the drive is also farther. I get about 6-7mpg driving on Thunderhill and 9-10 at Laguna Seca and Infineon.

all the track days i go to are 150-160 for 8 hour day with 20 minute sessions every hour which is plenty of seat time. i think it'd be cool to get a track meet together but dont think it'd work out well

The event at Thunderhill (Feb. 8) was $150, but Don/Krazy Bunta hooked it up. If they hold another event, I'm sure/hope the prices will be similar. The local guys who are interested should sign up. We could make it an unofficial meet hosted by others.
It was really far though, so anything closer, even if it's a little more $$, would be better.

I am just saying that the money will break even. Thats why I don't like going to Thunderhill. The extra $100 for entrance fee for Laguna Seca and Infineon can easily be made up by not driving as far and using less gas at a track... Just common sense math. Also, Infineon and Laguna Seca is more technical then Thunderhill, so more fun to me...

Sorry, but I'm an old timer. I've been around the rotary scene long enough to see many crowds of RX7 owners come and go.
Call it cynical, but I see it being more realistic. If you can't get 50+ people to attend a BBQ, then how do you expect to get a track day when you need at least 50 @ $200 per person to drive? And that is the BARE minimum. I haven't asked yet but I'm sure the cost will be quite more.
Justint5387, technical course or not, you can't beat experience no matter what the course is. I'm sure most of the members here have never been on a track before, so starting on a less technical track such as T-Hill is less intimidating than Sears or Laguna. I just moved back from Phoenix a few months ago but I drove Firebird and PIR every month. They're even less technical than T-Hill, but I was still never the fastest out there. But the experience you can't replace. Learning the line, drafting, braking, passing, etc... those are the things beginners should practice. I'm sure you would agree with me that, you would have more fun on a good track like Laguna or Sears if you were grouped with just people of the same skill. I just honestly think the majority of drivers "think" they're good or fast drivers, but lack the fundamentals of racing.

The odds of 50+ people ( all rotary ) putting money together for a track day is slim. But I was thinking if we invite all mazda owners and if properly organized we could have something big.
