No more smog ref!!!

Taken from another forum:

So the smog guy right next door to me just informed me that due to californias huge debt Ca. State Smog Ref's. have been shut down. Now if you get "REF'ed" you take it to ANY basic smog shop. He said he got a letter and this went into effect 2 days ago.

Good news for any Cal residents not just Socal like the title implies!
http://smogcheck.ca.gov/

Per the Governor's Executive Order issued on July 31, 2008 concerning the state budget, Referee and Consumer Assistance Program (CAP) Repair Assistance, and Vehicle Retirement services have been suspended until further notice. We apologize for any inconvenience. Consumers may call the Department of Consumer Affairs, Consumer Information Center at (800) 952-5210. Also, please check our web site periodically to confirm when both Referee and CAP services will resume.
YAY!

January thru March 2008 alone the Consumer Assistance Program spent $8.87Million on retiring and repairing vehicles that failed smog. That's three months, yow.

I'm puzzled as to what has really changed? Is it still not true that your post 1975 rotary still needs to pass a CA smog test? Mine is coming up for my modded FD (it can pass Smog - just not visual).

Let me know fellas. Thanks much!

PS - if anyone knows of a friendly smog location (I'm in San Jo) - pls PM

-Matt
