2 years ago, I used a new corolla for the sniffer.

Needless to say, my FD was a ULE vehicle

I wonder if that would save my *** for the TEST ONLY station?

BTW, there is one next to Mazda Masters.

2 years ago they didnt have the dyno smog. You need to put a rotary on the rollers since I think the machine knows the rotary fires differently.

So has anybody actually gotten test only 2 times in a row (consecutive smog tests either annually or biannually)?

this thread is so full of ****.....

my 7 was test only from the previous owner, the engine had popped coolant seals so it couldn't be smogged before the transfer of title. i redid the engine, put it up on our smog machine at work and it had the test only flag because it was still registered in the previous owner's name. i went to the DMV and transferred the title to my home address and put it back up on the smog machine and it is now flagged for regular smog.

why are you guys trying to scare the poor noobs?

SupraTT, who will do the repairs for the smog failures? i hope you are being sarcastic or you really do take stock in what any dumbass off the street will tell you..

lean as it can go without dying?

actually leaning it out at idle is all you really should need it also will protect the engine more than leaning out both at idle and 2500. lean it out just until it starts to misfire, that is about as clean as it will burn.

I've heard this as well from a reputable tuner.

running a single cat?

stock vehicles do not run just 1 cat, which i usually suggest putting the stock system back on before trying smog, you can pass with a single high flow but it is a little tougher unless you have a perfect running/tuned engine. just because an engine runs good and produces good power doesn't mean it is running properly for emissions. it also depends on what mods the car has and what type of port work, was the tuner referring to a rotary or just engines in general? rotaries inherently have low NOx.

Well the tuner specializes in rotaries and we were talking about leaning out the mixtures raising in the Nox on my car so rotaries definately, not sure about piston engines though.

If you have been paying any attention you would know the percentage of cars being sent to test only center is increasing drastically. http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/stdPAge....gram_Areas.htm

They expanding the "enhanced areas" which 36% of all vehicles must go to test only centers.

SupraTT, who will do the repairs for the smog failures? Easy. All the places that are currently doing them, but they wont be able to smog the vehicle.

The only reason they haven't been doing more is that there hasn't been enough smog only stations, but that is changing.

They are also installing more equipment including camera's The gov isn't stupid it knows it has a problem with people passing cars for a few more bucks. Just look at the statistics. There is a 7% difference between the test only and the normal smogs.

But I do have a source that's a bit higher than "some guy coming off the street"

Welcome to the Republik of Kalifonia

they are increasing drastically because the number of cars on the road is increasing, the table for older cars gets bumped up and soon cars that never were flagged for test only will need to take the test. as for the whole state having only test only stations, i still don't see the writing on the wall but maybe i'm not looking hard enough. we still don't even have a single test only facility anywhere near my house, if they force people to drive 40+ miles to smog their cars with a chance of passing while having full work schedules the people will rip the doors off the capital building.

you may be correct that eventually all cars will have to do test only but i don't see that anywhere in the near future, maybe 10+ years from now and by then a fair share of cars on the road will likely be hybrids of some kind. i can't see that far into the future and if you worry that much about it then you should take the bus.
