Movin to LA
Here, I live in a pretty nice house and have a pretty good job. The wifey is movin us to LA so I have to find a job and a place to live. TV shows make it seem like every house in LA is $500k+ for a 900 square foot box that need $200k of repair. Where should I look/live if im in the under $200k croud.
My seven has no emissions and a ported motor. Should I leave it here? There is no way it will pass emissions. Can I live outside of LA and not have to worry about emissions?
Much thanks to my new neighbors

Sir, you are better off where you are. You can't even buy a tuff shed for 200k in Cali. You'll be paying $$$ just for smog hookups for that rotary rocket.
BTW, if you need smog hookups, PM Wackyracer.

Not much yuo can buy in the 200k range.. all depends how far you want to be from downtown LA.. If yuo live out in the valley.. about 1-2+ hour drive durring rush hour to/from LA you might be able to find a nice 3 bedrrom house for about 300k.
If yuo want to live in the with in 10 min drive from downtown LA expect to pay 400k+ for a small 2 bedroom house with a crack head, of you go down south towards Torrance/redondo beach area which is a nice area to raise kids and about 30-1hr drive to downtown LA expect to pay 500K+ for a 3 bedroom house..
If you and your wife are not making an income over 100k a year together..you'll have a tough chance buy a house.
So you'll probley be better off renting.. apparts ments average 1k+ for two bedrooms in the LA county area... much higher if yuor near the coast.
Well If yuo do decied to move out here, check out www.socal7s.org and check out the local events/meets.
Other then high Prices and emissions.. Cali is a wonderful place.. if ofcourse your not near Downtown LA as crime rating there is pretty high, but out by the coastal area.. very lovely. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Where else can you surf and snowboard in the same day?

looks like condos start at $300k no matter where you live.
My wife will be working in El Segundo. A friend told me to look in Banning.. but that looks like a 3 hour drive for my wife?
Im trying to get a job in Irvine or anaheim. Just pecking around it looks like Santa Clarita is nice place to live and fairly affordable.
Any more advice on where i should look to live?

You will hate the drive from Santa Clarita to Anaheim or El Segundo, unless you leave at 4am for 8-5 work hours. A 20-mile drive can take at least 1 hr during rush hour.
And you're right, if you want to find something below the $500K, it has to be in bedroom communities. And thats the main reason why rates on apartments are so high. Prices on SFR is no longer affordable.
