A BIG thank you to all that made it out. I had to leave before the raffle due to other commitments. But before I left I did a count of cars and I came up with 112. I'm sure I missed some, so I'm probably understating.
Miatas - 44
There were 19 3's & 6's broken down as follows:
Mazda 3's - 13
Mazdaspeed 3's - 5
Mazdaspeed 6's - 1
There were 49 Wanklemobiles broken down as follows
Old Schools - 4
Old School drool car (Renesis Engine for instance - 1
Repu's - 2
1st Gen's - 4
2nd Gen's - 15
3rd Gen's - 10
RX8's - 13
Raffle
There were reportedly some really great prizes given away from the Raffle. I heard a set of tires and I heard from my friend I entrusted my raffle tickets that I won a LoJack. Perhaps someone can post up some of the other prizes given away.
Show Awards
I heard Robert/FC3S91 won Best of Show Modified Mazda in a very tight vote result. I happen to know that he barely nosed out a most excellent Black RX8.
Could someone post up who/what won the other two categories?
The secret car Mazda Corporate shipped over for display was a amazingly cool Motorsport Miata. The hood wasn't open, so I'm sure it was to hide the fact that there was a Wankle under the hood.
And I'll take this moment to plug that this is a get together we do EVERY 3rd Saturday of the month. Vendors, raffles, and T-Shirts we'll probably only do once or twice a year. But you can count on free food and drinks like we had today waiting for you EVERY 3rd Saturday of the month. See y'all Saturday, September 21st.

You forgot the rx7 count.... And the secret Mazda miata has nothing under the hood beside a cool air intake headers and maybe a fuel management system! Nothing extreme!

The other three categories (Best of Show, Best Stock, and Dirtiest Car) were all won by members of the Miata club.
Robert took home Best Modified.
I didn't note the raffle prizes, as I held no tickets for it.

1) The Miata club ran the contest out of their booth, and you had to know to register with them in order to get a number. Wasn't widely advertised that this was necessary (I found out only by word of mouth later in the day & was registration number 35). A lot of non-Miata cars never registered.
2) The Miata club members, being more familiar with how their club does things & being much more likely to seek out the Miata club booth, knew to get registered and most of their cars were.
3) Looked to me like only the people who registered cars (at the Miata club booth) got voting slips; so again, this meant people more closely associated with the Miata club were both more likely to register, and to vote.
Absolutely no intentional bias on anyone's part, but if disproportionately more Miatas are registered for the car show, and disproportionately more Miata clubmembers are voting, it's pretty much to be expected that Miatas are going to garner more votes in most categories.
It's a testament to the quality of Robert's (& Jedi's) builds that they able to break through that & score highly - - rightly so; few of the Miatas on display were modified in any really significant way.
All was run fair and square. Results really just indicate that the non-Miata peeps weren't as in the know. Having some actual announcements about registering and voting throughout the day would probably help.
"Expecting" to get an award is not right any more than "expecting" to win a race is, but the chance to earn recognition of successful efforts in wrenching/restoring is as much fun for me, as the chance to hit the top of the points roster or the winner's circle is for the track folks.

i have to disagree with you. cant compare a car show with car race. on car shows, you need to come up with something new each time with more bling not to mention bias judges (have favorite brand/model).
not just you but i noticed many gets upset when they dont win....as i said, attend an event to have fun and mingle with other enthusiasts.

This was in this stepped up version for all intents and purposes a first time event for the on site organizers. Lessons were learned that things need to be handled differently compared to a fire up the Bar BQ and they will come approach.
Truth be told, this is the first meaningful on the lot attendance by the Miata folks since this was started up last November. And they sure made up for lost time.
It was just a matter of numbers. There were 44 Miata's, and the next largest concentration of any single car type was RX7's at 29. And considering the three generations are so distinct, it was more like the next largest concentration were 2nd Gen RX7's at 15 and then RX8's at 13. So 44 vs 15 vs 13, not surprising who won what award. If there was any lesson learned, if you want to improve your chances to win an award, rub mud all over you car before coming.
Anyway, weak spots were identified and acknowledged and will be improved on next time we pump up put our little monthly meet with steroids. Kind of reminds me of the first 7Stock (IV) I went to ages ago.
Now all we need while we're waiting for the Rotary News article (where I'm sure there will be much bias toward coverage of Wankle Cars) and DSport Magazine articles come out, we need those who took time to take pictures to post 'em up.

The event was fun but some things could have been handled better (parking for instance). I think we would have had more RXs had the event not taken place at the same time as Nisei showoff. I do agree that the Miata folks were in the know regarding the car show and the word could have been spread to non-Miatas through a flyer as you entered the parking lot but it is what it is and I had a good time regardless. I really wish more old school Mazdas showed up though. The old schools and their owners are always fun to be around with

honestly, I was there just to hang out with friends, make a few new ones and enjoy the day. Got so busy that I even forgot to vote for the awards.
besides, when there's RX-7's around, the RX-8's never win any awards.
Just wanted to send a big THANK YOU to those who made the meet happen. I enjoyed the day and will try and make the drive out there again in the near future.

Always gonna lose more of them than you ever win; I don't get upset, I just get motivated.
Any wailing or gnashing of teeth you may have heard about was exaggerated, I assure you. & it was way too hot to lay on the asphalt and kick my feet in the air.
Haven't pulled pix from my camera yet - hardly been home since the event ended. Maybe tonight.

Weird; was working before. Facebook... sigh. Probably not shared right or something. Write software for 14-year-olds, and only 14-year-olds will be able to figure it out.
Should be working now, sir.
Or not. Argh.

Simply refuses to work. I fail at Facebook. I'll have to host them elsewhere.

Well, maybe not the awards, raffle, and vendors. But the free food and nice cars will be there again September 21st.
Third Saturday of EVERY month. Same time, same place. I'm looking to bring out the S5 TurboVert with the little video fish.
Look forward to seeing y'all there.
