Anyone have links to video of reasonably fast cars at BW in the correct configuration(or not) this will be the cars first time out, and my first time at BW, so I will be crusing, don't worry I won't hold anybody up, the car is wide, but not "that wide". Alternately who is running advanced that has plenty of seat time at BW? I'll follow you... Can anyone tell me how long the tow will be from ~San fransico on a Friday? On a thursday mid day? can't wait to meet you all, I was so bummed when I missed Laguna

hi carl,
here's some video to get started, don't have time to look up what configuration mazfest will use.

i've driven the track many a time and can give some pointers if wanted. u can even ride shotgun in my car, that was the best way i learned the track. it is a technical track. i registered in beginner class cause i was gonna drive the truck, might try to move up.
lost hill, cotton corners, and the buttonhook/harpin are tricky yet important as they set you up for straights. real fun track.
getting out of the city on a friday will take a lot of time. tow down the 5 is simple yet boring.

Carl, here's a link to John Wurths track video in his 93 RX-7. It's Configuration #1 clockwise, but the only difference is the Sweeper vs Star Mazda turn.

From my several visits to Buttonwillow, the real two danger areas when running #13 CW are the Sunset turn on the front straight and the Lost Hill turn. The sunset turn has a dip and off-camber after the apex and is kind of a throwaway turn, especially given how much power you make. Lost Hill is a fun turn over the hill, as the car gets extremely light (duh!) as you go over. Definitely make sure your turn-in is done before you go flying over it...

Hey Carl! Didn't know its your first time at Buttonwillow! If we are running #13, there is not much straightaway action (which is good for my low HP car!). Its a relatively flat track with many turns. My GF thinks its boring compared to the elevation changes at Laguna Seca and Thunderhill. As for the tow, if I do not hit too much traffic it takes about 5 hours towing from San Francisco, of course I usually stay at Lost Hills not Buttonwillow. Saves about 1/2 hour.

Thanks everyone, I amsure I will be taking everyone up on their offers/help. I had a pretty serious Bicycle accident yesterday, and my right shoulder is pretty F'D up. Should make working on the car a real joy. Went off a large jump (24" verticle ramp) at ~20 mph, and landed head first shoulder second, straight down on pavement(yes I was wearing a helmet, or i would be dead...). It's going to make finishing the car really tough, Hopefully it will heal fast. Either way we'll be there.

I could be mistaken, but i'm pretty sure he was just coming in from the pit area. See you guys at the event, it's going to rock!

Got my hotel room for friday nite (tow up and drop off car and trailer friday, tow home sat evening).
Hotels are going very quickly. Willow Inn is where I usually stay. Clean and okay.

I may have a track spot for sale Here is the story, and I need to talk to Redline; Now that I have slept, here is the exact deal;
Turbo let go on the third power pull...... brand new turbo, 0 miles, -4 feed, -10 drain straight down on the drain, 90 psi oil, Mobil 1, no restrictor, NGK racing 6725-11.5 plugs(new), 10.1:1 AFR, conservative base line timing, 114 octane, low EGTs and ~@ 6000rpm.
Made 300ftlbs of torque at 4000 RPM on base line timing. So, I think we were headed for a great day, when this BS happened... I'll be back on it by next week. Turbo should be taken care of under warranty.
So, I may put my tiny little TO4B (previously called a TO4S by me, I was wrong), or my T66 .81 Q trim. I think that the T66 will be laggier than want, but we'll see. I probably will not make Mazfest, although as long as it really is the turbo(not the oil control rings), I may go for it, and tune on Friday at "7s only" @ BW raceway. If the car has another problem, I can put it in the show LOL. CRAAAAAAAP...

Get that car running Carl!
I'll be going up Thursday and doing the Friday Speedventures and then the Saturday Mazdafest. Hopefully my car will still be in one piece by Saturday! I'm saying at the Willow Inn so I'm sure I'll see some of you! Look for a stock looking silver FD.
