May 8th Ortega Highway Sunset Run and Fuddruckers Meet!
Alright guys, it's that time again. Let's do a sunset run down Ortega Highway and then do a late dinner at Fudd's!
The plan is to meet on the Lake Elsinore side of Ortega at the outlet malls. It is a huge parking lot with plenty of room. The address for the meet point is:
17600 Collier Ave
Lake Elsinore, CA 92530
We'll meet at the end of the lot by Pottery Barn at 6p.m. and plan to leave the lot at 6:30p.m. for Ortega. It should be a beautiful drive with the sun setting and hopefully the traffic will be less than going during the middle of the day
After we get through Ortega we'll jump on the 5 North and head up to Fuddruckers. We should get there right about 7:30p.m. for dinner. The address for Fudds is:
23621 El Toro Rd
Lake Forest, CA 92630
Here is the entire route. I'll have directions for everyone at the meet point. It should be great - see you all there!!! Original thread here.
Also, look for our 3rd annual Angeles Crest run next month. Leaning towards June 12th as a date!!!

Slaving away for the man. That's what's up. Yes I still have it. Burned up a full tank of gas going through Borrego Springs, Mesa Grande, and Palomar Mountain today with a half dozen 120 spurts, and one 140 run. 300 miles of mainly canyon and desert carving and I still averaged 20mpg. I work most Saturdays so today was kind of special for me. Plus I had a cute girl riding shotgun egging me and the car on.
I'm beat, but oh so satisfied. I'm going to try my best to make it out next weekend and hang with you all.
After a few months of really struggling times, it's refreshing to actually have fun again. Feels like it's been forever.

ya the ortegas are great, until you get stuck behind someone. Hopefully not as many vettes as the video. I hate those things, i call them the poor mans exotic. Buyin one of them is like buyin an NA rx7, it just dont make sense. imo lol

Really though, there wasn't any reason for the second half of your post except to prove how much of an idiot you are when it comes to sports cars. Poor man's exotic? Are you being serious? The Corvette has never tried to be an exotic. The new ZR1 is the closest, and even then, it's more of an attempt at being a GT car.
If everyone thinks like you, there's no point in me bringing my poor man's exotic. I wouldn't want to have to embarrass the little ******.

Haha i meant supercar not exotic, and Car and Driver seems to think it is one and they are the experts. Anyway I put imo for a reason. If you dont want to go now then so be it, less traffic and V8's for me to deal with.

Supercar makes more sense, but even then only the Z06 and ZR1 were meant to compete performance wise with super cars. And considering the cost of one of them new, it's not like most people have a shot of owning even that when new anyway. I'll retract part of my statement then due to what you meant.
I just get so fed up defending imports from domestic owners, and domestics from import owners, etc etc, that I start getting pissed off. I've owned both, and consider myself a true car enthusiast. The more types of cars we have, the more competition there is, the better it is for all of us. It's a win-win situation.

I just get pissed cuz chevy builds the vette to blow everything on the road to pieces, and it does, but then they sell it basically dirt cheap. Its like everyone can buy em so they are over rated. I know they are really fast and have great handling I just cant see ME ever owning one. You should come to the cruise if you havent driven the ortegas, they're fun. The turn called the carousel just keeps going and going.

I did Ortega about 2-3 years ago. It's been a long time though. I was never able to do it with my FD or S13 though as I was either always working on them, or didn't want to go too far as I always got harrassed by cops.
Chevy has sold the corvette relatively cheap, partially because alot of the materials are cheap. Just look at the interior. Not exactly high class. Add the fact that the engines are often times used in other platforms(or variations), and it makes costs not as bad. It's a volume game. There were 15k FD's brought to the U.S. from 1993-1995. During that span, there were probably 60-100k corvettes made. Even counting the Japanese FD's, it's not even close. GM can afford to sell their cars cheaper.
I've got my own bones to pick with Chevy though about the corvette. It has nothing to do with performance, but other issues(column locks, flying roofs, front turn signals that short out when you're washing the car, leaky rear-end seals, etc).
But man, do I ever love the LSX platform...

Everycar has there problems. My dad has kinda the same headlight problem on his M3 , his right xenon light goes out for like an hour after he gets it washed. Only at car washes with higher pressure capabilities, hasn't happened with the hose.
I think what it boils down to with the vette for me is they are just to damn fast for a street car. I would probably need 3-7k in my car to even touch a new one, on top of what I have done already.

It's all relative man. You get use to 200hp, and you think 400hp is too much. Then you get 400hp, and you think 600hp is the new too much, and it keeps going. Why else would there be 800-1000whp Supras and GTR's looking for turbo Busas and Turbo Vipers.
I use to think my bolt-on SR20 S13 was fast. Then I thought my streetported FD and stock C5 were fast. Then I thought 500rwhp was fast. Now I'm dreaming of 700hp... GAHHH IT NEVER STOPS!
Best advice I can give anyone... NEVER mod your car. Leave it alone! Once you start, it becomes a disease. An illness. And you start modifying everything you own.

I bet that s13 was pretty damn fast.
I know where your coming from, We used to have a banshee. (quad). First we put pipes on it, went to glamis and got smoked. Then the process began. We were in the local atv performance shop every weekend getting the next piece as we got used to the power.
And about not modding your car..... I AGREE!!! I love my 7 how it sits but sometimes I think, man it would've been so much easier to leave it stock. For one, once you do one thing you gotta do another( up the boost- up the fuel type deal. you cant just put on one part.) And for two, now it always has a little problem that needs to be worked out.

Friend of mine has an '87 Banshee. What a fun ride that is.
You sound like you're all too familiar with the mod bug. It's always something, and the more you do, the less reliable the car is(no matter what car it is).
But what fun is it having something we don't put our own personal stamp on?
And yes the S13 was fun. I could creep away from my dad's '96 LT1 Corvette with stock boost though I never ran it against my first C5. I always wanted to turn the boost up though and max out that T28 turbo. Too bad the cops LOVED that car. Never got so much harassment in my life.

I have been lucky with the cops thus far. Did you have wheels(custom i mean lol) on the s13? Cops love flashy wheels.
I think I dont get bothered because my car is completely stock looking. I hate my bicycle wheels though- 205-55-16. It just looks funny, If you look at my car from the back the tires look so skinny. I wish i had some nice like 10 inch wide with 5 inch lip wheels on it, with a butt load of camber
