Just a quick update.
Insurance says they're hiring a 3rd party appraiser to appraise the vehicle and the value it's going for in my zip code. Of course they're looking for a stock FD, but that's fine with me. So do me a favor and post your For Sale FD's at a premium. LOL.
I ripped out the rear bumper and the interior trim panels that were burned. The damaged is not all that bad. I can definitely sand out some of the blackened spots on the rebar and the trunk area. I will need new wiring and new trunk interior trim. The rest of the interior will need a good cleaning, but I think I got that covered with a pressure washer and steam cleaner.
Though I assessed the damage, I still haven't decided on what to do yet. I'm still waiting for the appraised value before I make any final decisions.

Some opinions needed now.
Insurance is offering 10k -- 1.5k buyback. They said that they hired an appraiser to get market value. A couple of weeks ago, you couldn't find any clean title VR R1's for any less than 14k modded or not. But now there's this one bastard on craigs selling an R1 for 10k screwing up the market rate. Should I fight for more value? Anyone have experience with trying to get more from insurance?

Yes fight for more value in fact did they put your aftermarket items on the appraisal?
do you have receipts for your aftermarket installed items? ALL OF EM???
I suggest providing those to the appraiser so that your car's value will go up more.
What about mileage? Did they account for your mileage? Was your mileage less than the other R1?
What about the motor? Was it rebuilt or street ported?
If you can provide burden of proof for how your car is different than their comp I think you can fight for that value.
My friend got rear ended in his fully restored Kouki S14, got an appraiser and they valued the car for 14K. The amount he invested into the car.
If you want PM me your MODS LIST so I can work up some figures.
Did they provide you with his estimate? Can you send me a copy for review?

when my FC was totaled, i told him the only thing i had was a shitty exhaust. (apexi N1)
and i bought mine back for $250. my NA FC was so clean with only 50k miles. they gave me what the shitty FCs were selling for with twice the miles. cus they had no cars to compare it to.
gave me $2,250 for the car, took $250 to buy back.
