It's all personal preference in the end. I know plenty of hardcore track nuts that spend hours on circuits, and go up to the canyons to drive fast as well.
A car can take a life at 20 mph or at 90 mph.
Even race drivers sometimes like the thrill of fast canyon driving. (Reminds me of 2-3 years ago when SCCA Cup cars, drift cars, and trailered race cars used to get trailered to GMR and Mount Wilson to do hillclimbs and downhill runs.

It is personal preferance for someone to endanger other people lives? I call BS on you "know plenty of hardcore track nuts that spend hours on circuits, and go up to the canyons to drive fast as well. " I am sure these are just more of your JDM fairytales and exagerations. It is one thing for me to sit back and read you BS when it is not endangering anyone but when you try to justify canyon racing especially in a thread that obviously shows newbies like yourself endangering their own and their friends lives as well as the live of others who weree on th
e road that night.
I also call BS on your story of 2-3 years ago when SCCA cup cars, drift cars, and trailered race cars ran up and down mount wilson and GMR. If this did happen it would be on a closed course and I am 99% sure that even on a closed course it would not be on public roads instead it would be private roads or dirt roads. The only way your statement about that would be pertinent to this situation would be if those cars were all running on the public roads with cross traffic coming and going which is beyond impossible. I don't know how long you will live your life in that internet fantasy world of yours but hopefully you will grow out of it soon.

It looked like he was going too slow to call this street racing. The driving alone was poor enough to get him into trouble from what I saw in the video when he was behind that Matrix. Not saying that to be a dick just pointing out the obvious. Going to watch the video again in case I missed something.
I do some mountain drives near me for fun and to check out the nice scenery but I don't actually push the car or try to go fast.

NOBODY WINS!!!
You can keep saying, Take it to the track" all you want. Sad truth is that we'll just do whatever the F@$# we want. I drive mountain roads (to my and my car's capabilities) i have respect for both my car and the road but I still love the track as well as a cruise through local twisties. You can call people names or just bash on them but it's not gonna stop them. Least we can do is give each other constructive criticism instead of the "you're a retard" bit or "you're a jackass" maybe they are but it only creates tension among us in this forum. I'm not taking sides but we all know some people think they're the best drivers and some just stay low key and talk with skills. Luckily noone got hurt and they get to be more cautious another day. I too have lost friends to stupid situations but it doesent stop me from taking a semi-hard drive at night through my favorites spots. Everything we do is at risk and we choose to do it anyway. I say to all of us that share the same passions, use your head. Think a few minutes ahead instead of in the moment and consider other's safety before you're own as you decide what you're next move is.

Good judgement is developed through experience.
Experience is gained through poor judgement (if you survive it).
Or, as George Carlin put it:
"Have you ever noticed that everyone who drives slower than you is an *******... and everyone who drives faster than you is an idiot?"
But then, he's dead, so what does he know?

how was that slow? I was on average going 50 through the turns and on the short straights into turns I entered at around 75.SOme of teh really tight turns we wounded down to 40s. Maybe everything on video at night looks slower? If we didnt know how to drive, we wouldnt have been going that fast for that long. The roads here are tough, its tighter and windyer in person than it looks on vid. Go watch other windy canyon vids and compare it I guess, or go record yourself running through a canyon and see how it looks. It was just a unusual wheel hop that got me on the turn. A little wheel hop can throw any car off in a turn going fast. When you go faster and get better, things become 4x more risky. Even pro drivers crash, even tchuchiya crashes, are you going to call him a bad driver? Some times road conditions are unpredictable.
Its these risks that makes us love it. Maybe we're dumb? But cmon, lighten up a bit, Jason was narrating to be humorous, funny but some of you guys are serious buisness. Cmon, when Jason said "open or lsd, 2way ?!?! WHAT 2way you didnt tell me that!?!?!" Lol thats funny **** , or when he keeps saying "NEMESIS!!!, IMORTAL, IM ALIVVEEEE" or chanting "RX7CLUBBBBBB, and talking about me and Himeh bllowing motors. ***** cracking me up !!!Its probably one of the funniest touge videos . I mean when do you ever see a 240 vs matrix on the touge lol, or when car crashes on a touge run and the survives without a scratch. Thats just one in a million, thats why we had to post it up. Its just too insane to pass up. This is a classic epic vid!!!

Also keep in mind that by glorifying this type of driving you just convince more non experienced drivers to be on the canyons with you endangering their lives and yours as well as the other people using those road for the purpose of getting home to their families or going to work.
No offense, but it's already been glorified. "Touge" is the origins from Japan as you know, and it's all over videogames, movies, television, and the internet. I think people like me like Touge because it's dangerous. More to the point, we are responding to what is out there already, and personally, I take full responsibility for my actions. DUI drivers, on the other hand, are infinitely more dangerous, numerous, and more likely to injure others than a Touge racer.
Now posting videos of it.... That's another matter of opinion

Call BS all you want, life moves on. You are not hurting me in anyway. I will keep living my so called internet fantasy.
But in the end i guess we all agree that these videos are retarded, the driving sucks and is pretty slow for "canyon racing". I am done here.
-Good day.
