Why would you want to take it to someone who isn't reputable? Unless you're in a tight spot I wouldn't recommend it. If something goes wrong, can you trust that they will make it right? And how can you trust the opinion of someone nobody has ever heard of? Don't do it! There are alot of shops to choose from. Well..maybe a few.

I agree. If would be fine if they fix your car right the first time, but if they mess something up would they fix it for you free of charge, not meaning that you pay for the parts and they will put it in for free, but meaning that they well pay for the parts and also putting it in. As for backyard work, i don't think they will have anykind of warranty for you, but if its a risk your willing to take then go for it. As for me i would no let him work on my car unless i heard good things about him. The only time i need help would be just adjusting the throttle body or something like that, that i haven't have experiance yet.

Where do you think most people biuld a reputaion? Doing backyard work cheap. no one just opens a shop and people go wow they have a shop must know what they are doing. You work out of you backyard biuld a reputation and have a clientel which will alow you to afford a shop then move up. I have a few freinds along with myself who are backyard workers and we are the most meticulous group of people I know checking and re-checking everything. And hey if we break it and are at fault of coarse well replace it but if we fix it with parts you give us and the parts fail Ill help you make it right but dont expect me to take blame. You get what you payfor isnt always the deal when you talking about peoples time. You can take it to a reputable shop that will look at a manuel and tell you that it says it takes 10hrs to pull a tranny and theyll charge you for the 10hrs and all other misc. things because they are a shop and may not know exactly what they are doing but will do it right by the book. Or you can take it to someone at another shop who maybe has done it a few times and charges cheaper becasue he knows what the job is worth and will do the job to the same quality but cheaper because it doesnt consume as much of his time. I dont beleive cheaper relates to quality of work as much as quality of parts. Ive done jobs for cheap before not because i dont think im worthy of charging it but I dont see the point if it only takes me so long to do it. You save someone a little money and hell give you two or three good referals, you take someone to the bank and he finds out he tell everyone of his freinds not to deal with you. In my opinion people are more important than money. I know this is a long post but im just saying dont judge a book by its cover these guys might do great work and are ready to move forward from it just being a hobby and this is the best way they know how, free advertisement.

Yes that is I who posted on CraigsList.
My partner and I have been working on Rotaries over the last 10 years.
I myself do not have a reputation rebuilding motors but my rebuild mechanic has for 7 years and has not had one motor come back due to workmanship.I am pretty picky and do not believe in cutting conners.
I have a few people who I can point you to and also can promise anything we install will be right the first time and if not we will fix it before it goes out.
Our labor rate is about 15-35% cheaper than Shops and I will be opening up a shop in Oakland in the next few months. It will run under my Sig name.
After I move into a shop depending on overhead costs the price of rebuilds could go up.(starting at $1800 for short blocks with full rebuild kit)We charge $600 each way for motor pull and install plus parts.I am here opening up as a new shop and will provide honest and quality service to all clients.I am here to build a good reputation amongst the RX-7 community for the services I will be providing.
Keep this port updated with comments and questions and everyone can also PM me.
Thank You

just go and check him out see what he knows and what he doesn't know ask a lot of questions pick at his brain and see what he is about. And if you feel like the dude seems trust worthy and can back his work up then give him a shot. All shops start out as back your shops Take for example Speedmachine. They came a long ways to get where there at today!!!

He's shown me his work and I have talked to him about his business and he doesn't seem like the type to cut corners or cheap out. I've seen his bodywork/restorations and I've been thoroughly impressed at the quality to the point that he's going to be working on my custom front end and paint.
I was in a pinch on several occasions and he has done me the favor of buying $200+ in parts for me (out of his own pocket) and brought them up from LA and didn't want to take more money from me. I rarely like people (as some may know) and I consider myself a good judge of character and I will vouch for Junpower. Good guy, doesn't try to rip you off and a true rotary enthusiast that knows what he's doing and from what I've talked to him he doesn't put up with mediocre work.
If the rebuild guy is as good as Junpower is at bodywork then this might be the only option for the Bay Area's only reasonable priced, quality rotary custom work and if you're lucky he'll give you a ride in his ride and show you some awesome driving.
