Not true, Ref's no longer do the sniffer portion. Policy changed about two months ago due to budget crisis. That said, they're very up to speed on what has to happen visually/equipment wise and you have to pass that hurdle before they send you elsewhere for the sniffer part.

That's what I hear... Haven't been through myself since it happened but I know a couple friends of friends who have. Good luck!

I wonder what would happen if you equipped your hood with security pin locks, and made a point of never carrying the key with you.

If asked to pop the hood, you could legitimately answer that you physically cant. Not sure where that would lead the cop to go... I don't believe that there's a law that requires that the hood be openable whenever the car is on the road.

Just thinking out loud, really. Not something I'm likely to test.

YES very correct on that hood pin blog. My friend with his 240 did that exact same thing. The cops had his car impounded right on the spot, and before he was able to pick the car up from impound, he had to go to the police station and pay 150.00 to get a police release form and have an officer meet him at the impound. But before the police would release the car to him, he had to open the hood. So BACKFIRE!!!!!! it cost him over 400.00 bucko's just to get his car back. So yeah, the not being able to open the hood trick wont work. Oh, and the cops will impound your car if you refuse to open the hood when they ask you to as well. They will give you the option. Either open the hood or get it impounded. your choice.

Oh, and hears the real story as to what will happen to me. I do have to smog my car at the ref station. Now if i got a ticket with the penal code of 27171, then it's an inspection only. if you get a ticket with the code, 27156 then it's an inspection and a smog test. They will take about an hour with your car. They will also look in the most common places in the car such as under the dash/carpet/behind the plastic wheel well and under the seats to look for things that you hide that are illegal or that might be hooked up to your computer to make the car pass. So that's the scoop on that. OH but there is good news out of all this though. When they smog your car, it is only a whopping 8 bucko's for the whole smog instead of the 70.00/350.00 i would have had to pay. So it will save me some money. That's the only good thing out of it.

I told you what your going to need to mod back to stock on your vehicle. Put stock airbox bov, bolt in cat for aftermarket exhaust. remove boost controller. go to a pretest smog place, see if it passes with stock n370 ecu w/o safc. its a little more money, but hey you wont have to pull the motor apart to get it to pass smog if it does pass pre-test, would would only have to worry about visual.

Remove your hood spring. thats what i did... only way to pull open my hood is to go from the headlights and pull up then it pops. Otherwise.. it stays closed...nothing anyone can do.

Did this cause I was getting pulled over weekly upon the purchase of the FD. Its worked so far

dude ive gotten pulled over twice, once the day after i got my car for having a cracked tail light.. the second time for no license plate in the front.. they dont give me tickets, cause i have a paramedic sticker on the back of my car! i can give you a sticker if i can get another one!.. they'll bug you but they cant give you a ticket... well they can, but theyre not.. the only thing cops do to me is follow super close behind.. haha just to read the damn sticker i have.. but thats what i did, so i can avoid cops and getting tickets..

I had an ugly loud '7 before and I got pulled over 2-3 times in a year or so, all late at night, for no real reason. Now I've had a cleaner one for 3-ish years and have never been pulled over for anything in it. I doubt they'll admit it, but cops profile. Just don't stand out. It also helps to stay legal.

Don't give your tax dollars to Kalifornia. Run out of state plates ( a state that probably won't waste it either ).
