H E L P!!!!! Pulled Over By The Police
Hey guys. i was pulled over on the freeway and given a ticket for air intake, gretty blow off valve and a boost controller. The cop told me that i have to put the stock stuff on the car to make it pass smog and then call a number to the California state smog inspection station to set up an appointment to have my car inspected with a fine tooth comb before it will be legal and pass to be allowed to be on the street. I have a Garrett TO4B ball bearing turbo (hibrid) S4 rotor housings on an S5 motor. 8lb flywheel, safc II, 680 primararys, and 850 secondaries with a medium street port. 3" racing beat rev II exhaust with no cat. So are there any loop holes to get around this? Because i would have to change my whole engine to a stock one and add stock exhuast to make it even smog legal. So anyone with any info on this would be great. I have till august to do something.

San diego just spent 600k to crack down on "street racing" I don't think there is a law to just pay the fine and get out of it.. or everyone would abuse it. I doubt they would notice your injectors fly wheel and all the other parts that can't see simply see or be able to catch by just the sniffer.

Yeah, i'm not sure either. I was kinda surprised how much this cop knew about rotary engines. I don't know how i can pass the sniffer without changing my whole engine setup. Witch is what i may have to do. The cop took pics of my engine and my car with his cell phone. Don't know what's up with that, but i'm glad he didn't look under my car. I for sure would have had it impounded and fined 1,500 bucko's. But thanks for all you guys who are replying to my post.

wait for ticket in the mail, it should have a bail amount that you can pay. Request extension, than go to court, plead guilty, they will make you pay the fine, but ask you if you can pay full amount, you say no, than they will make a monthly payment plan. Ive done this 2 times back in 06.. I dont think it changed. Good luck!

I can help you out to a point. I've got a Cat that will directly bolt into as replacement for the presilencer. Had it made up for my REV II for that once every other year need. With that your exhaust would be legal and you're welcome to borrow it. I gather that's why you posted a WTB Stock Exhaust elsewhere.
S5's have a boost controller stock. So I would think a ref would let that go with the argument it was simply an after market replacement that was sold to you with the understanding it would maintain stock specs since you old one failed and a new one couldn't be obtained by the dealer. My controler is hidden away for the reason you just experienced. Out of sight out of mind.
The only CARB legal cone filter intake I know of is made by K&N. It comes with a CARB # sticker. I've got one of those in The Beast, but my others have K&N drop in's for exactly that reason. Might want to consider switch it out.
If you recirculate the BOV after the MAF as stock as stock, you probably will get by the ref for the same reason as the boost controller since that a stock set up otherwise.
Most of the other stuff you should be ok. Pretty difficult to tell the turbo isn't stock. But I'd take out the SAFC before going to the ref for obvious reasons. Mine is hidden away for the reason you just experienced. Out of sight, out of mind. You can always put it back afterward when it's all signed off.
If your concerned San Diego has become ****'s in this regard, you can always go to a ref in a friendlier part of the state. I had good luck with a ref up here when I had my TurboVert swap signed off.
Hope that helps.

for reff tickets simply sell your car to ur friend and the reff will clear off. when you go to court tell them you sold your car ,and they will drop the ticket and just pay 10bucks.. then buy your car back... ez..my friend did it like 3x and he didnt even really sell his car, he just told court lady at the clerk office and they dropped the charges.
this is the "loophole"
so do it son.

^^^what he said, just have one of your friends register the car to their name, and tell the court you sold the car.first wait in the mail to see if you have a bail amount, and how much it is cause if you register the car to your friends name you still have topay transfer fees and smog it.see which way is cheaper for you.i did this about 3 years ago but my bail amount was about a grand.so i registered to my friends name and only paid transfer and smog fees.this was 3 years ago so dont take my word for it laws most likely have changed by now.next time dont open the hood for cops unless they have a warrant to search it, or unless their was a probable cause like you having modified exhaust.good luck

Well, i was told by someone that when i go to the ref, i wont have to smog my car. Only for visual inspections. So if that's true then it would be a picec of cake for me. But i will check it out for sure on Monday.
