why is the auto FD so much slower than the 5speed one, i think an auto FD runs mid 14 while an stick FD runs about 13.7.....why so much difference, i read somewhere that it is because of the trasmission, but still it should not affect the performance that much....

i can look at the fische for you and see if the pedal assembly bracket is the same.
we had to swap out the whole thing on my bro's mustang. one of the most tedious jobs i've ever done on a car.

I wouldn't do it unless you got the car for dirt cheap.

this makes me wonder--
are there any shops that can do performance mods on the auto trannies?
you could get an old 350 hopped up to take serious abuse, but does anyone ever give thought to this?
autos launch better

hey... don't you have problems with your current FD as it is? why don't you put your money on fixing up that one first... this project is probably going to set you back at least 10k. for that money, you can have a 10 second set up on your current FD.
Kamaal - you are worried about blowing your motor, but yet you get a used piggy back peter farrell computer and don't know how it actually works, now you want to purchase another FD and convert it from an auto to a manual? getting a stand alone computer and plugging it in is a lot easier, cheaper and faster than converting an auto to manual.
Just looking out for you bro. wanna make sure that you're putting your money where it counts and i don't want to see another RAGGIDY lookin' FD on or off to the side of the road.

"Built" autos may be faster for dragging in some cases (not sure about FD) but no way in hell are they better for road racing. Ya know, with corners and all.

Try more like 3k max if you do the work yourself.
And I have read almost every thread about the auto->mt swap and everybody keeps saying it is not that bad. Can easily be done in a weekend as long as you have all the parts.

I wouldn't listen to Fu because everything he says is 'bullshit'
It's not really worth your while so you might be better off selling the AUTO FD and buying a manual.

Whats up man. I did that swap on my fd and it cost me just over $5,000. So to say the least, it was not cheap. And if you want someone to do it for you, go see Chris at Auto Namics (Check Point) and he will hook you up. He did my swap and everything else that I have done to mine. If you have any question, feel free to hit me up. (916) 628-6405 cell.

sure, the key words are "parts and labor"... parts = 3k-5k and labor = 4k-6k.

You sir either have no idea what you are talking about, are buying all new parts from Mazda, or like paying money out your ***. I honestly feel bad for you actually paid 3-5k for parts.
Which one is it?

That is the funniest **** I have EVER heard. Nor Cal guys trying to act all hard. Thats like my grandma ******* me at Thanksgiving.
Obviously he doesn't know what he is talking about if he thinks it costs that much. On the HIGH side, it should cost 4k for parts and definately not 5k for labor at a shop. He must enjoy getting long sticks and bills shoved up his ***.

i agree with FUMANCHU i don't think it cost that much to convert an auto FD to a Manual one..i THink about
in between 4-5gran sounds reasonable if its done by a good *** shop..REdline (ED) are you sure it cost 10 gran , may be if you get all brand new parts from a dealership , cuz they do charge you up ur ***..****...but good lookin out though...and yea my FD does run good ...it has given me really no problems so far..only the battery which i am about to get a new one...i just wanted to buy another FD, i would rather do That then spend another 10 gran on moddin my current one...thats just my way of thinkin i am pretty sure you have your own theory...again appreciate you guys responses..
