Cop said I cant have silicon hoses?
A bike cop pulled me over for no front plate and mentioned my car dosent sound stock. Makes me pop the hood. (I have an intake, v-mount, twinpower sitting right there so Im shitting my pants) Out of ALL the things I have, he pokes one of the I/C hoses and says "this is silicon?" Im like "Yes it is." Then hes like yea thats illegal. It has to be rubber. My jaw dropped. He said people use silicon to improve airflow and gain hp.
I was about to lose my cool and say that out of all the things in my engine bay, Your gonna bust me for my i/c hose? I mean, christ, my car smells like a gocart. W.e he says that he has probable cause to pull me over next time he sees me and if I havnt fixed my "Silicon" hell give me a ref ticket. Which sucks because I live 1 mile from where he pulled me over. He gave me a plate ticket and left. He also mentioned that he was trained on how to identify modified cars. I will say tho, I think my RB duals saved my *** tonight because he thought my exhaust was stock.
SO, is it illegal to have "silicon?" lol

u wanna trade ur Rx-2 for my FD? At least then I wont have to worry about "silicon" lol
I thought it sounded bogus. The prob is if he pulls me over again and gives me a ref ticket for my non-illege hoses, I will still get shafted for my countless other mods.

I don’t get this he pulled you over because you are missing your front license plate??? I see Corvette’s all the time like this with no front license plate and cops don’t pull them over, so why can they get away with it and we can’t? If you remove the front license plates bracket there is no place to put the license plate just like the Corvette so WTH? This upsets me because I removed my front license plate long ago and I don’t want to put it back it looks ugly.
Strange thing I live near a Starbucks and go to Starbucks a lot right before I go to work and I see 2-3 cop cars right outside, cops are even standing outside their cars talking and see me pass and they don’t say anything, I just hope it stays that way!

This is the FIRST time ive been pulled over for not having a plate. Ive been pulled over for other reasons while I had a Greddy SP exhaust and cops didnt say anything about plates or exhaust. THis cop was just way to excited thinking that he learned a few things about modding a car. My hoses are black, so I dunno what I should do. I prob shouldnt even worry about it.
It does **** me off tho that police can say watever they want. I told him that if the law does state that I cant have silicon hosing under my hood, then thats one BullShit and pointless law, and if he was smart he shouldnt waste time enforcing a law that makes no sense. He then got all into how silicon dosent heat up and improves airflow.

Don't worry about it, and move on.
Remember, the cops, even if everything is straight on your end, if they want to give you a hard time, they can.
They can tow/impound the car to make your life hard, and even if you win and get your car back with all the impound fees paid, in the end, you still could be left on the side of the road.
Just be polite to the police, and save the bickering for the courtrooms, and other stuff.
If you don't like it, register the car out of state with an out of state address and come up with a good story.

Most of the time when I got pulled over and popped for doing something stupid. ( Mind you I used to drift in industrial parks, late at noight, with no one around) I wa salways ' Yes sir, No sir, and Thank you Sir' If you give them an adidtude then they will throw the damn book at you. Like Miatamanmx5 said, Just be polite and hope they are in a good mood. Hell one night I got arrested, ( Once again for dumb crap that i've gotten away from since I had to grow up sometime.) And while I was in the cop car we were talking abou tthe crap he used to do when he wa sakid with his cars. Obviously he owned a muscle car back in the day. But drag racing and driving like a loon was something everyone did. So, yeah. Play it cool and try to show the cop you're human.. That's about the best you can do.

same **** happen to me too but i was driving my friends 3000zxtt at the sfo airport picking up a friend. cop pulled me over because of no front plate and the exhaust. made me pop the hood and saw the silicone hoses said he thinks they're illegal. started bragging about he's part of a street racer task force and how he's trained in knowing whats been modified illegally. its funny he didn't noticed the i/c's,bov's, etc.. either way you can't really see much in that engine bay.
let me off with a warning though .
theres a thread on the forum that has all the executive order parts list that states what you can legally change and silicone hoses is one of them lol!
i would keep a copy in my glove box to get out of some funny arguments with all them brian oconner's

I got away wtih just a front plate ticket because I did to things:
1) I acted very respectful and calm
2) I didnt feed his ego buy sucking up to him to much.
Here is my engine bay.. Nothing to shinny, the cop was talking about the black i/c couplers.

The only thing that the ref will make you change there is your intake system. Apex'i intakes don't have a CARB number/sticker. Intercoolers are NOT illegal to change and the couplers are fine.
You might wanna put the air pump back on too. They'll bust you for that if they are smart. I can't really look around your engine bay but your sig says "restrictor plates" I'm assuming that means emissions block off plates. Those are illegal too. If you do get sent to the referee put your emissions **** back in, leave the intercooler and you should be fine.
And put your front license plate on.

the gov is taking emissions just a little too serious these days....esp in california. some if not most of the "upgrades" without carb numbers. actually make things run more efficient, help to produce less emissions etc...
i wont how it would work when i move to cali, and my car has the most minimal engine bay, upgraded everything, but running on e85, ill clearly be way under the emissions standards yet nothing i have will have a carb number. where is the sense in their logic? guess i better keep my az/tx plates

my restrictor plates are put inbetween my MP and Catback to prevent boost creep. I still have my EGR and all that. I would just need to put on my cat and airpump to pass the visual I guess, but Ill be out of luck when they smog it. From what Ive heard, when you go to a ref they smog your vehicle and my FD failed bone stock.

^ what part of socal are ya in,. i wanna stray away from that area....
funny thing is., on my old t2, i had emissions removed, no air pump, bov, straight pipe , no cats, etc.. and a HUGEEEEE exhaust,
and the only thing they would pull me over for is no front plate.. depending what area i was in... lol..
a lot of cops are bias. sucks but its how it is.. my cousin is a cop for Gardena, and he tells how cops are towards american and imports..
eh, im not gonna a front plate, till i get pulled over hahaha,
