ca state ref ticket
hey guys got pulled over in a suby 04' wrx today non sti...
first thing out of the orange pd's mouth was pop your hood
it is my friends car and he says he pulled me over for tinted windows
so the car has full piping no cats from turbo out the back with a hks highflow pipe.
an aftermarket intercooler stock mount and an hks ssqv bov! along with lightend crank pulley.
other then that nothing done to the car cept for the tint.
what exactly should i change on the car to get this ticket written off?
i heard aftermarket intercoolers were legal. as well as the pulley and possibly the hks pipe...
this car is very loud. i wonder if they will check the tint or if i will be alright just putting a stock bov on the car and put the stock catback exhaust on?
please help me out... im going in the military on this wednesday and i feel so bad.
btw im in southern cali.
btw... can i go to a test only smog station? or is ther an actual like chp state run station i have to go to?

Need to put the stock exhaust back on... intercooler should have no effect as an intercooler does not effect emissions.
I am sure you got pulled over for sound/lack of exhaust emission control

im worried about the window tint as well...
i have most the exhaust pieces cept for the axleback.
and i need a stock bov... hopefully the intercooler will pass visual inspect?
i need to block off the hks bov plumbing as well. direct bolt on to the intercooler.
ecu has already been remapped back to factory settings. and i put a silencer on the exhaust can.
hopefully that will all do it.. the ticket also says "required- no sign off"
so it is a mandatory court appearance im guessing. so i have to take it to a state ref get it signed and then take it to a judge??? i think

although it doesnt effect emissions, sometimes you cant change the intercooler.
not saying this case it is illegal, but i would double check before you go there.

Reinstall the catalytic converter, get rid of the bov. Bov's are illegal, most officers call it a blow by or some crap like that. If the muffler is over 95 db, silence it, or find someone with a stock muffler that you can borrow for a day. Make an appointment with the local ref station. It takes about 30-45 minutes for the inspection. All they care about is that you pass smog and don't go over the db rating. You don't have to worry about the tint unless you got cited for it. The exhaust should pass visual if you have the CARB EO numbers or the official paperwork for it.
If you pass, the ref will give you a print out that you sign. Make several copies, just in case. Go to court, show the judge that you complied and you're done. Go home and put the car back together.
A word of caution: If you get pulled over for the same stuff two more times, you get issued a non compliance citation and something happens. I don't remember what, but it's bad. Also, if you opt to pay the fine and you get cited again, you will get a failure to comply.
(The above info is from my personal experience and through conversations with very good friends and coworkers in various Police Departments and the CHP.)

And if you're still concerned, just leave the windows down all the time you're there. Out of sight, out of mind.
Trivia, California Vehicle Code doesn't require that you have side windows at all. So, when you get a tint ticket, you can just take them out to get the sign off. Then back in they go.

My neighbor just got one with his SR20 S13 and he is thinking about selling it to his sister and then later transferring it back into his name. I am not sure if it will work but thats his deal and he is willing to pay if he absolutly has to. He would get screwed if he takes it in because of the SR. I'll post the end result on here once I find out.

still has to pay.. i had 2 with my sr20 s13... yah the will just pull you oever and tell you to pop your hood.. I would ask them why do I need to pop my hood, and thier reply would be "If your not hiding something, then pop it" or "becuase your car fits the description of a street racer" ... Ive heard those 2 times..
Ive paid over $1k total on 2 tickets back in 05.. sucks The last ref ticket, i got rid of the car but still had to pay since the problem existed when i owned it..
