BIG smog problem, dont know what to do!
Im at the point to where im not sure what to do anymore. I tried to get a hook up from some one on this forum but they told be it cant be done because the car has florida tags. I dont have enough money to replace my catalytic converters, and fix my air pump and replace my blown shocks, and fix the oil leak all at once, Im not even working right now. Can I pass smog by installing a high flow mid cat, and doing nothing else? I cant replace the precat, I would leave it alone, and I wouldnt fix the air pump. Would I pass smog with only a high flow cat? I dont want to get a downpipe yet to replace the precat, because that just means I will need a boost controller and a boot gauge which means more $$$ I dont have. anyone with GOOD ideas id really appreciate it, I dont know what to do

hold on you got florida plates...man what the ****!!! just keep the car registered out in florida and you don't have to worry about smog...why the hell would you want to convert to cali plates pay smog, smog fee's and all that extra money...keep your residence out there and save your self the trouble...

that sounds like a good idea , but the thing is that this is my daily driver, so eventually people will catch on , and if I drive by the same cop every day month after month, its only a matter of time until he catches on, pulls me over, and I get in trouble for it. Thanks for trying to help though

I found a random technology highflow catalytic conveter for the FD there are 2 types: 1 is a ceramic type, and the other is a metallic type. The metallic converter costs more because Ive heard metallic converters resist heat better and are more durable anybody know anything about this?

Any armed forces member can register their car as an out-of-state resident. But what you've already had suggested to you is a good idea...Even if its not permanent, I would recomend doing it for now until you start working again...Temp fix is better than no fix at all...Best of luck to you

Cops see way to many vehicals a day to keep track of everyone on a personal basis. Keep your florida plates if your smart. If you'd like to enter smog hell and be more broke than you already are, convert to cali plates...
LISTEN TO TEDDY!
And just incase a cop were to get suspicious on you, tell him you do LOTS of business out here in cali, and your out here for weeks at a time.

If you have no job and it looks like an FD from your avatar? ...yeah those don't mix very well..Park it and buy a pos DD like I did haha
but as for your problems...precats aren't worth replacing. They may end up cooking your motor in the long run. Replace the main cat and get it tested to see where you're at. And if you keep your FL plates, the risk is low, but there always is a risk.

nah po box wont cut it. Typically you have to have a bank statement mailed to a place of residence and a telephone/water/electric/gas bill showing your residence to get a license/registration in a state.
if you got parents in another state you can transfer the title to them and have them register it. big hassle and plus you're violating california law that says you must register in CA within 10 *(I think) days of moving. IN all it's probably not worth it..... but you'd be the one to decide.

Yes You can
Or route 2 is to find somebody friend or family member that lives high enough up there at those elevations and use there address as the primary source to receive mail...That or this is also another way to not smog your car...
But as for home boy...do yourself a favor and screw cali by keeping your out of state plates...your not going to get caught, and there is always a loop hole around not getting a ticket... visiting, school, so on so forth...

Check this out...at a certain elevation going toward, into, or up into the mountains...residence of those high altitudes do not have to smog there cars or trucks...The trick is to get a PO box and use that as your primary source for receiving and mailing mail...Leave that PO Box there till after you have to register your car, and you my friend are exempt from smogging your car...

i'm not sure that's true. you should follow up with the state of florida or wherever you're gonna get a po box. Some states do not consider po boxes to be adequate proof of residence. (speaking of Tennessee, Illinois, etc..)
I checked.

I have been pulled over several times for simple bullshit... I ahve TN plates, and have yet to show my military ID, and no they never asked for it either. As long as your registered with insurance, most cops either give you a ticket for what you did wrong, or say to slow down ect... they do not really give a **** overall were your car is registereed if your a good tax paying citizen with no criminal record on file.
