was it 3k, for the a complete rebuild, including labor, takign the motor out of the car, tearing it down to the short block building it back up and dropping it back in??

rebuild kits alone are around a 1k.

Should be something like $1200 for the full rebuild kit, xx $ for taking the motor out, xx $ for taking apart the motor and rebuilding it then putting it back together, then xx $ for installing the motor back into your car.

I've seen pricing quotes such as:

Full rebuild kit $1200 (parts)
Engine removal $500 (labor)
Engine rebuild $800 (labor)
Engine installation $500 (labor)

but it varies.

Yeah I called them myself and they told me for my S4 N/A full rebuild (assuming almost everything is worthless in your current engine), parts, labor (i.e. rebuild its self, pulling and dropping in the engine) it would be around $2,600, minus taxes, so yeah 3g's assuming everything is fucked, sounds about right.
