who has had Hinson do their coversion for them?

Im new to this site so Im not even sure if this post goes in here so dont blast me. Has anyone here supplied Hinsonsupercars with the car and motor and had them do the conversion? Was it worth it? Looks factory like? Pleased with the outcome? Im probably gonna have them do mine, I just need to do some research first. Thanks guys

Go to www.torquecentral.com.
A guy just had his conversion completed by them and is
pleased.
Hinson seems to be running behind and some people
are pissed.
I put off ordering their kit because of there backlog and
passed on a couple good rx7 rollers.

yeah, Ive read how he is behind. But, that could be due to his recent honeymoon (ive read) or just a big demand for his car. I'll have someone do the conversion for me, whether its him or someone else but I have no time to it.

seems like a waste to drive someone elses work you have NNNNOOOO bragging rights when someone else built a car for you.

what the hell are you talking about? If one car is faster than the other then it doesnt matter who turned the wrenches. So all the guys with the Lingenfelter 427 TT dont have bragging rights b/c they paid someone??

Well, I think hes just saying its better to do your own work because it saves you money, you learn alot, and if something breaks, you have noone to blame but yourself...

Not only that but IF something breaks(which with a performance car usually happens at least from time to time) you won't be afraid to dig in and fix it yourself.

There is nothing wrong with paying someone to do the work if you have the money. Not everyone wants to work on their car.

Besides, the statement that "you have no one to blame but yourself" is actually pretty dumb -- if you pay someone else to do it and they do something wrong, THEY fix it and not you.

Just my 2 cents against the constant mantra around here that you always have to do everything yourself....

thats what im saying. and plus, theres a difference between putting stuff on a motor that came from the factory (Lingenfelter vettes), and taking out the factory motor, to put not only a different motor, but one that completely doesnt belong there. (physically, not because it isnt a rotary, i love piston swaps)

point is, i saw a guy at a meet one time who paid someone to do his swap. i didnt know at the time, but it caught my eye so i went to talk to him. i started asking things like what tranny? what clutch? any internal mods, ect. and he seemed to not know **** about cars. then he finally just came out and said "i paid someone to do it".

im 18 and have done a swap like that before, trust me you learn ALOT. just tackle it yourself, its way worth the experience, and it will be WAY cheaper than paying ~80-100 bucks an hour for labor.

well, Im 23 and Ive built 4 different motors for my firebird. So then I got a an '04 vette and supercharged it with a blower cam and some other goodies. Its just that Im tired of doing it myself so I paid a perf. shop to do it all for me. Been there, done that. And I know my stuff.

yeah, but MOST people who pay DON"T know their stuff. They know jack. Fast, yes, satisfying? not to me. I build all my own cars, and only farm things out if I don't own the tools, like a TIG welder, to do the job.
Ofcourse, I also do most of my own work cause at 22 I can't afford to pay somebody else. I can only buy the parts. hmmm, performance parts... drool

I just had them finish up my car for me. I bought it mostly completed and had them get it buttoned up.

I've been through this before with having shops do work and was very clear with Brian the time frame and my prior experience, I believe they worked on it a total of 4 days and had it ready ontime.

Considerng they took the project in the middle of completion, didn't know what they were getting into, and still had alot of work to finish(fuel, wiring, exhaust) I'm amazed at the quality of work and the fact it hasn't had a single hiccup.

BTW, I've paid people to do work and I've done it myself...my original plan was to do this swap myself over the winter but the car came up and I wanted to drive it during the summer, not have it sit on the garage while I dicked around with it.

I'll do all the suspension work myself but that is what I'm most familar with and what I had done in the past. It has not too much to do with knowing anything about cars, it comes down to time and money, thankfully I had more money than time.

that sounds good. I am going to have Hinson do a '94 or '95 LS-1 6-speed for me. I'll supply the car, motor and trans and I'll let them work their magic. Then when I get it back Im adding an Intercooled Magnacharger to it!!!! Thats gonna be fun from a highway roll!!

I've been looking at the Mag, will it fit and with what kind of hood?

It will pit in the engine bay but it will need some type of custom cowl hood to be made. I can get a body shop to message a cowl into a hood for me. Or I'll just cut the hood so the polished Mag will peak through, that is what I did for my magnacharged corvette. Here are some pics http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=800489

If it will fit then it sounds like a good plan.

It sounds like less hassle to FI the stock motor. If the stock motor is running well, using no oil, etc then if you add the blower and do have some type of problem your range of possible problems is very narrow compared to pullng the entire motor part and building a larger motor.

I just wonder how big the cowl needs to be. I posted a message on the Corvette forum to get some info on the chargers size and hood clearance and got no replies.

If Hinsons ever does get their TT setup done I would also consider that. I didn't consider it at first because you lose the AC but I'm leaving mine off anyways.

What did Hinson's car run with a stock LS1 and t-56 6spd?

Was it 11.8@120? I want to see someone drop a Ls1 in a FD and spray a 150 shot...It should see high 10's@128-130 I would imagine.

According to his posts he's run high 9's on nitrous. The motor is not a stock LS1 though. Not sure what size shot he had on it to get there.

Brian has never run in the 9's that was a projection. I think his best is a 10.4.

I ran a 11.9 BONE stock first time out with the new transmission and I may spray mine with a 120 shot this weekend and I will post the results.

Yes. I ran a 11.1@125 on the spray. The nitrous kit isnt jetted right so I think there is more in it at the 120shot setting.

Again that is a BONE stock motor...........for now!!

if that were true, then no stock lambrogini guy could brag about their car because their car was built by someone else, but brag or no, they can still wipe the floor with most of us

There's nothing wrong with doing your own work, and it can be an immense source of pride and pleasure to be able to say you did it yourself. But at the end of the day, if the guy who paid to have his car built is faster than you, bleating about how you did the work yourself and he didn't isn't pride... it's just whining.

Well what if the guy used stolen credit cards to pay to have it done?
