rx7 v8 swap!!
how technical would that be to drop a 350 into my 86 rx7? i mean like with all the vacuum lines and the computer and ****. what would i need to do? get a new computer and ****? and i'm also trying to figure out whether or not i shold leave it a manual transmission or go automatic. what would be easier. i need some advise..

Most people do LS/LT swaps. There is a forum for this sort of things linked by compubob. We here in the general FC tech section normally don't like these kinds of swaps because most of us like the RX cars because of one thing, the rotary. Most of us view it as rather backwards to buy a rotary powered car and put in a piston engine. But some people get fed up with rotarys and do them anyhow. Suit yourself
Good luck with the work, try to pick a car that is already blown if you can, don't take a still working car and throw it away, rotary wise anyhow. Also if you do it, do it RIGHT and don't ghetto it out much.

i love the rotary engine as well. i think it makes more sense actually. the only reason why i wanted to doa V8 swap was because the rotary is blown. so instead i wanted to do something different and my buddy told me to drop a V8 in it and that people have done it before and it came out really nice. nothing against the rotary's though. mine is blown and i can pick up a small block 350 for $100. haha. just doing something different thats all

It can be done pretty cheap compared to building up a rotary. It takes a LOT to get an NA 86 into the low 12's. I had under $7k invested in my last FC conversion. It's still on Centerline's photo gallery too, even though I sold it to a buddy of mine so I could build my LS1-powered FD.

Here's some info for you and ****...
Don't expect it to cost $100.... plan on a minium of $1K if you can fabricate everything yourself and to do it safely. Remember that using a POS junkyard motor and stock parts I wouldn't expect miracles...... the engine conversion with lack luster parts and reverse engineering (ie adding 200lbs to the front end with an all iron V8) will be fun... but it will leave much to be desired.
An RX-7 with 150K mile stock suspension and an all iron 350 in it WILL handle worse. On the flip side it will also with traction haul *ss in comparison to an n/a 13B. A lighter 302 Ford (very light iron block) with aluminum heads will maintain the good handling as will an LT1 (iron block/alum heads) and an LS1 (all aluminum V8) will handle great.
Your cheapest bet would be to throw in a used 13B that runs well... if you want a seriously fast car then research the engine conversion further. These cars can be seriously fun... and you will learn a ton about cars..... plus a V8RX-7 can be a handful after laying rubber for 100 yards and then beating motorcycles....

Why put a v8 in an rx7? Why not put a 13bre in a c4? I think that would **** off wayyyy more vette owners than an 8cyl swap into a 7 would **** off rx owners.
As for your swap, it is not that difficult at all. Grannys speed shop sells bolt in mounts for any engine/ tranny combo. What you do is get a nice complete stock long block (LT-1) and don't unplug any of the engine harness; that will make it alot easier when worrying about the harness.

Lessee, a rotary in a C4 would... suck.
The engine of a C4 makes up for the chassis. The chassis of a RX-7 makes up for the engine.
