BUt hood clearence with be very very close, the stock TII hood most likely will NOT clear, but a gutted one seems to be the solution.
Here is a pic of my tape measure to give an idea to the type of curve I am going to need to fit the intake. If the gutted hood will not clear then I am going to try to get my buddy to help me make a FG or CF hood to clear it.
I also wanted to add that the engine where it sits now its almost completely behing the front axle say for about 5 or so inches of the front of the engine. So you know what that means for handleing right? Its most likely going to stay the same

What do you figure 3 months more and youll have it mounted and running? Im moving to Greensboro in just a few weeks is that near you? Dosnt seem like you would need any help. Its always nice to know people with common interests though. Im just curious what tactics you use to justify time and money for your car project with the woman in your life. I always seem to have the hardest time finding time and money for mine...especially when the wife gets involved. I cant be the only one with this problem. Projects coming along nicely....seems your going to have it done soon. Shawn

I also mounted my V8 (LT-1) with about 5 inches left in front of the axle 75 to 80% is behind it and handling seems unaffected. The front of the car didnt even sit any lower than with the old turbo 13B. I did end up adding stiffer rear springs due to the compression from launching hard. When I accelarated hard from a stop I could bottom out the rear end with the stock springs.

I was wondering more along the lines of how you are going to fab the engine mount plates (what you showed in the pic) to the chassis?
I'm doing a VH45, and I was going to get a universal SBC engine crossmember and just make some engine mount plates like you did and adapt them to the SBC engine xmember.

holy shizins dude you are actually doing this thing??? Come to thing I was standind in your garage just a few weeks ago. I didnt really know you were this close. You really got me thinking about this for my FC now. If you are already going through all of the fab then I could just buy replica parts from you and you can buy my custom stuff at cost and I can help you with the body if youd help me throw a motor in . How bout my new body kit for low amount and free bodywork? Hell you could even sell the mounting kit in the future if you decide to make replicas. I also want to know how much power I could make with this motor if I decided to go some custom turbo route--

You only live once. Once you get older youll find the right woman get married etc etc and then you wont have time for this stuff. So do it now and keep the car. A hour plus drive is only about 20 minutes in a v8 powered 7 provided you have a V1...lol.

As far as power output is concerned on these engines most people running twin turbos run roughly 15psi on a stock engine and produce roughly 550hp...on a stock engine. Stock bottum end can handle up to 1000hp

so is there a readily available manifold for this thing already? And is it exactly the same as a supra engine plus to cylinders? Also would I be able to get one for the same price if I did it through you? And how much would the bell housing be for the motor? I am really considering doing this. And if you help me out with it then anything I have is available to you for dirt cheap-

Holy **** dude I just watched some videos of this motor in some cars. Dude you will definitely be a pioneer on this side of the lake. I know exactly what I am going to do with this car now for sure. No more 3 rotor. I am going to go to your house, find you at school, whereever. I am going to be doing this to my car!!

If you are refering to an exhaust manifold then yes there is one for the SC400 crowd, so if those headers work in RX7s then less R&D for me. Intake manifolds are around but mostly individual throttle bodies and custom sheet metal intakes.
I am not sure what you mean by is it just like a supra engine, I mean its a toyota motor and was given a gobs and gobs of R&D.
It depends on availability, Advance Auto goes through commercial to purchase the motor and sincemy buddy and I have an account setup there we can do order large products, my engine with taxes and all was $561.75, and that was delivery to the store and I just borrowed my friends truck.
Bellhousings range anywhere from $275-$500 depending on what trans you go with, and since I am buying things that are over in Austrailia there is a favorable exchange rate.
Since you are so interested in this swap I will double my order on my mounting brackets and such. So you can be another ginea pig for this swap in the states.

It's nothing like the Supra engine. But that's not a bad thing. Toyota generally has two different head designs, a performance ("GE" engine code) and an economy ("FE"). The thing is, the 1UZ flows pretty good as it is stock. The valves are similar to the Supra's and can probably be used in place of them, but you have to consider the fact that the sizes are different and thus you must modify the seats.
That's about the only similarity though. capn, you said the bottom end will hold 1000 hp, but that's with rods and pistons. The weak point of these motors is the piston ring lands, actually. They'll handle a good amount of power but they'll break well before 1000 hp. Actually, the rods very well might hold that much, but since the wrist pins are pressed, most people just do rods with the pistons.
Forced induction really is where these motors will shine. Once you deal with the rods and pistons, the thing is unstoppable. Twice the potential of a 2JZ, if you ask me. The 1UZ has 6-bolt mains, compared to the 2-bolts of the 2JZ. Also, the rod journals are incredibly beefy (a little more than they have to be, if you ask me).

yes that is what I was asking about. If this thing was basically a supra motor with two extra pistons. I am familiar with the 5sfe that I had in my mr2. But I want to to this and go forced induction for sure. That is what I was asking about as far as exhaust manifolds being available to run turbos or is it something I will have to completely fab up. I would love to have a beast from this thing. 700 horse. Hell yeah.

There is one guy, I believe his screen name is majola or something like that, over on Lextreme's forums that has a super insane 1UZ twin turbo build. There's a vid over there of his engine on the engine dyno, and it's just awesome. I want to say he's pushing around 1000hp at like 15 psi, but I can't remember for sure.

Not to hijack Capn's thread but anyone with a sports car should own a V1. Yes thier expensive but so are speeding tickets! Mine has saved my tail many times and I now swear by it. Worth looking into anyways.
