It looks so nice and natural in the car, if it works it works. Its not your car or your decision, even if the car does not handle the same on a auto-X course could you imagine what the 1/4 mile times would be w/ the extra HP over the 13b?? I am all for rotarys but i have owned 3 V8 cars (Tubbed '85 Ranger - 351W, '90 mustang w/ some work, and '89 mustang - stock) and the sound and rumble of the car can't be matched by anything, I might be buying another GXL and am considering putting a rolling chassis under it and a small block chevy into it add the tubbs and it would be sweet and fast. but i am saving the 13b and rebuilding it into a turbo w/ full mods. Respect the time and work he put into the car even if you don't like it oh well its ur opnion. I personally like it and think it adds a uniqueness to the car that has already defined the term 'sports car' this just adds the finishing touch.

Let's see... I was offered my 88 from a friend for free since one of the rotors had seized or so I was told. I took out my engine... and happened to have a 351 sitting on the garage floor. My engine builder/friend was interested in the 351 so I traded it for a short block race prepped 302 which has found it's way under my hood. I could not afford a rebuild and used the resources I had. Oh, Swain Racing running the Canada Challenge Cup with the sister car to mine had impressive finishes. I'm a fan of all things with wheels, heck I like the heavy trucks that compete in the Paris Dakar. As Jack Nicholson once said "Can't we all just get along?" One more thing please remind yourselves that their is a difference between being quick and being fast. I (my very own opinion) have enjoyed taking an M3 down the back straight at Mid-Ohio and through the Madness corners more then launching with the kids at the late-nite illegals. I love taking friends for rides, I just tell em' they have to scrub their boxer shorts themselves afterwards. Cheers to all.

Here's a couple thoughts for the weight distribution issue.
Has anyone done a similar weight test on a stock vert?
Would the steering, instrumentation and brake booster not make up for some of that weight?

You know what.... I have something to say, sort of.
1. a v8 7 is better than a junked 7.
2. There is no getting around it. large v8's are simply more powerful than our rotaries. especially when we are talking about all n/a engines. now, when we compare the 20b to a v8, then we start to get more competitive. the 20b costs A LOT more to do though.
3. v8's sound nice. more people appreciate the sound of a v8 than the sound of a rotary. Me, personally, I like both. It's a lot easier to suprise someone with that rotary tone though I still like the sound of the 20b better than a v8, from what I have heard of 20b's. (wav files online)
4. when producing the same amount of power (in N/A form) the rotary will be less reliable than the V8.
5. Finally, a rotary will handle better than a v8, always. How close the v8 comes though, is questionable.
6. For some reason, I would still feel like I raped my car if I put anything in it besides a rotary.
I think we can all agree on this? except for 6 cause that is just my personal opinion.

Hey V8RX7. I've got a TII that I'm rebuilding and going back with the rotary engine but I also have another RX-7 with a mint body and blown engine. I'd like to do a V8 swap in that one. What all is involved? Can you point me in the right direction? I've got a 383 Stroker built to the gills, 4000 stall converter hooked to a build 350 auto tranny and a ford 9" with disk brakes from an old lincolin that are just sitting around my shop.
I need some info on what I need for the conversion. Crossmember, motor mounts, steering box have any problems hitting the exhaust ect.
Be cool to have 2 red TII's. One with a 425 hp turbo rotary engine for the track and one with a 425 hp N/A V8 for the drags.

The reason is
that people continue to do swaps. They finish and want to talk to others about the work they have put in. I have seen butchered 7's with all kinds of engine swaps, and they were all terrible. I have seen others done by folks with some fab skills that really complement the car.
I love my FD, wanted one since they came out and when I could afford to tinker with a car that didn't have to drive every day, I bought one. Stock, Stock, Single, Single, and on my Fifth motor wanted to try something different.
Unless someone steals YOUR car and "removes its' soul", STFU. Appreciate the hard work put in. Mazda engineers, like all car engineers, made compramises. What made the FD so special is how few they were forced to make. The motor in stock form was reasonably reliable at best. A hoot to drive, but far from bulletproof. Look at all the changes or so called reliability mods we do. Up the power and you are on ice much thinner than most other motors skate on.
I love the seven, and I don't need to be a slave to staring at an AFR gauge everytime I floor it, to enjoy it anymore.
Be happy to talk soul with you after running some laps on the track side by side...
Lovin' my LS2 (except I kinda miss the angry chainsaw sound...)
