Got Hemi?
Has anyone installed one of the new Hemi engines into a FC or know of someone who has done it. I drove my friends new Dodge Power Wagon with one and its nice. I would not put one in my FC but if I did change it to a V8 it would be a Hemi.

What's 16 spark plugs you have to change one every 80k miles compared to 4 you have to change every 20k?
Anyway I know a guy that got a new 5.7 hemi crate engine for his Barracuda. Lighter than an old school Chrysler small block and more power than a 426 hemi (less torque though). I'm dropping a 1998 Magnum 318 in my FC. Much cheaper. Some day I'll have a new style hemi, but it will go in my '72 Dart Swinger.

man this hemi thing really bothers me.
the hemi is an inferior design. The pentroof design that has been used in all piston engines since the discontinuance of the hemi in the early 70s replaced it for a reason. with the pentroff design, it is possible to use more valves per cylinder, and thereby get a more homogeneous charge and a faster flame front. the power is distributed more evenly over the piston surface, so you get better efficiency, more power, and a longer lasting engine.
the hemi was a really good idea back when everything had side valve and flat top engines, but the pentroof is the next logical step in line. the only reason dodge makes such a big ******* deal about the new hemi stuff is for PR reasons. people remember the old hemis, and how much better they were in their time, so they think that the new ones are better too.
anyway, theres my rant for the day.

20Bs are over priced and over hyped. They sound cool and make decent power, but stock for stock, most V8s will out power it - and that's giving the 20B the benefit of turbos!
I'm sure he'll still be set on the Hemi after a ride in a 20B and a V8.
If the 20B wasn't so damned expensive for what it is, I would have one. The fear of having one pop sways me FAR away from them.

I just wanted to know if someone has put a Hemi in a FC since everyone seems to favor Chevy 350’s when doing a V8 swap. I myself will always have a rotary in my FC. I will probably get my NA street ported when it needs rebuilt.

i think the reason that they use 350s is because they are sort of the opposite of the rotary in that they are super common and have all kinds of availability and aftermarket support, as well as cheap prices.
i'd say more than half of the v8 7s are built by people who are fed up with paying $50+ for every little stupid part that goes bad.

I've been thinking about doing this for a while, except i'd be putting it in an FD. It wont happen until I start seeing the 6.1 liter hemi for sale though. I think it'd be an great project.

Since the hemi doesn't seem to be breaking I think the used hemi engine market will cool off quite a bit in the next year or two. The 5.7s will also get cheaper once the 6.1s are out there in numbers. Since the LA engine bellhousing will bolt right up to the new hemi I can swap one in place of my 318 without too much hassle. I just hope Mopar Performance, Edelbrock or someone supports the engine with a carb intake manifold and stand alone ignition. I'll bet MSD could rework their LS-1/LS-6 ignition control or the CPC (coil per cylinder) to work with the hemi.

$7625 for the EFI version with all the electronics. One might be able to get another 200hp with the $4375 you'd save over the 20B. The carb version is $7300. I wonder if Kenne Bell will have a blower system for the crate motor?

I just confirmed that a coolant seal is bad in my 13B. I will be having it rebuilt or getting a rebuilt 13B with a street port. A 20B would be nice but it would cost too much and I have to pass CA smog tests.
