buying LS1 FD, but how about resale?

HEY everyone... I am seriously considering joining this community, because I am frustrated that it is too expensive to mod my R32.

I know what everyone thinks of the performance of an ls1 rx7, but how about resale?

If I drop 30K on an FD, does it even have a chance over 3 years of being worth anything?

I track 2-3 times a year, dont beat on my cars, dont really ever power shift and all that garbage... but will it be a monster to maintain?

Thanks guys

This isn't really the right community for you. The lsx rx7 community is torquecentral.com

I see good condition ls1 rx7s selling for over 20k all day long. 30 grand may be pushing it, unless its a absolutely flawless car that is making really good power with all high end mods. i think the typical range for good conditon ls1 cars are usually between 20 and 25k depending on condition. As far as resale after a few years... I dont see them going down much in price over the next few years... i wouldnt be suprised if you were able to sell it at no more than a couple grand loss over say 3-5 years.....

All cars depreciate in value, im assuming you know this. Unless you own a vintage rare *** model car thats kept in MINT condition, it might be worth alot.

But that isnt the case here.

Basically the car will lose its value BUT you have a better chance of not losing much with an LS1 FD than with an FD having the rotary.

You didnt even buy the car yet and you're thinking of selling?

What about if you love it soo much you will keep it for the next 10 years?

If you like the car, just get it dude.

BS.

In fact, this IS a community for him. However, when asking pretty much any question about LSx rx7's over here you can figure on getting about 40% useless replies hating on the swap, and perhaps 40% of replies defending the swap, and sometimes the last 20% will be useful to you.

I find it better to ask questions without pointing out the LSx in the car unless its an LSx specific question. Given this is an LSx specific question, torquecentral, or swapcartech.com are your best bets.

Will you be able to get your money back on a 30k FD? Thats questionable I think. You might, but then again the trend of LSx FD's might go down and in fact it barely be worth more than a normal 13b FD (14-18k). No one can tell the future market value of such a highly modified car. It might be worth more, it might be worth less, you really just never know. If you are really worried about resale value I wouldnt get it if I were you. Now, if you are worried about an INCREDIBLY fun car to drive and own, which will draw just as much attention as your R32 skyline, it IS the car for you. Short of a Ford GT there isnt a single car I'd rather have

I think it's funny you are worried about LS-1 FD resale value when you are trying to ditch a 1-2 year old R32. How many thousands you losing on that?

There's no recent trends to indicate that the car will depreciate much over the next few years, IF it's a well-done conversion. This isn't a car to be worried about economics and depreciation anyway...

+1. even paying someone else to do the swap for you should cost less than $30k

OK guys... I agree... 20 to 25 K is def the point of interest...30K was kind of a vague ceiling....

I am indeed selling the VW... but to answer why am i selling it?
Because I bought it used...and I can sell it for what I bought it. its two yrs old, and in that time I seriously did think i needed all that practicality.
Now, i realize i can daily anything that doesnt break and i really want to be in atleast the low 12s quarter... not much better out there than the rx7 ls1. I dont want a supra because it cannot turn worth ****... lol

I love the rx7, and I am kinda sad im getting hated on by some... but honestly, I wanted a car that would be a fast jump up in performance... without losing alot of money... the rotary version just cant do that for me.

I am a huge fan of the post-swap, because I want to drive the car. I am an autocross fiend...lol

I think you'll find that the people on here who have an open mind about the LS1 swap are very positive towards it.

It seems lately that adding an LS1 to an FD RX-7 actually increases it's value substantially. I guess there are quite a few people like you that don't want to deal with the rotary but otherwise love the car. But, I've seen a few jackholes trying to get WAYYY too much money for their swapped cars, so I'd suggest just checking it out thoroughly before deciding you've found the car for you. Also check into the mods they say they've done (while you're at it, if they tell you it dynoed something, ask for the chart) because I've seen that before, too. People trying to claim mods that they obviously don't have.

Anyway, just take a good look at the car and make sure it's got the quality craftsmanship you want and I think you'll be grinning every time you drive the damn thing.

Just an FYI, it appears that the "torquecentral.com" site expired.

Not to sound rude but last time i checked this is Rx7 club dot com not rotary enthusiasts dot com.

I believe they stick to NoPistons.com.
