302 in 88 GTU
well im just in the looking stage right now and Ive seen all the parts on grannysspeedshop.com and I have access to a 302 and this just a last resort for me. Just wanting to know the difficulty of this project. To me it seems pretty strait forward and on my dificulty scale it seems to be a 3out of 5.
Just wanted to know the basic +s and -s of this kinda project. Like what are some of the common problems and how to over come them. And if you are happy you did the swap in the end.
Specs of the motor I can pick up (well one of them)
92 5.0Ho with 5sp, complete harness and ecu
motor has been punched out to a 347 (if i heard him right)
Trickflow heads and intake
And was equipped with a Vortech SC (still in the works if I get that if i get it0
I searched a little. And just wanted to know from experince if ur happy with it..and stuff like that. Thanks in advance.

im swapping a 302 into my FB... I have heard nothing but that it is straight forward, and not that difficult. I'm doing the granny's kit deal (deluxe kit), so i have the d/s and everything. With that 302 punched out to a 347, that car will fly... I think you'll be happy with it, and i think all the others who have done it will tell you the same.

I think the 347 is a stroker, and had best have been built with some expertise or it will be a can of worms. Unless it is a real giveaway deal, or you have had a chance to drive it in the original installation, I would be very careful. You may spend half your life getting it sorted out.
Mine was a simple carb setup and I spent a lot of time getting it to run right. If I were doing it again, I would definitely buy a complete donor car, preferably running, and transfer everything to the RX-7. It would be instructive to read Brad Bergholdt's description of his 1st gen conversion on Grannys website.

Well instead of running the stock ECU and harness I was thinking about going to a stand-alone. it may make it easier. I did get to drive the car before hand. And it pulled hard, like wow hard. Like I said I know the guy and he tends to do things right, the first time.
