I am teh suck at launching
I just got back from my local 1/8th mile track. Here's a mod and timeslip rundown.
Mods:
Air filter
Elimated Cats
Timeslip:
60"......2.3
1/8 mile.....10.1 @ 70mph
I dropped rear tire pressure to about 22psi, launching at 4k and shifting at 6.5k. Lag wasn't an issue off the line like wheel hop was.
So obviously my launching ability sucks, any tips?

Launch higher and shift at 7500rpm. I have an N/A, so I dont have the extra power off of the line, but I am launching at 5k. Your 60' time isnt that bad though. Maybe cut another tenth off. But you need to run the motor up higher to atleast 7500. You will be amazed at the time cut the next time you are out there.

You want to go over the power band by about 500 rpm so that you fall back into the power band at a good spot. If you are shifting at 6500, when you shift, you will be around 5000 or so( I am really not sure since my car is off the road right now and I dont remember). Which is kinda low. The only thing I can say is try it, and if it doesnt help you, then I apologize for wasting your time. Good luck!

I haven't even tried launching that hard yet, I'm coming from a spec v to the TII and it didn't make any sense to launch the spec any harder than like 2500, so does 4000 do away with most of the bogging problems that I've been having?

hmm i ran a 9.86 with my NA :\ definatly shift later! also try double punching the clutch right when you leave if you are having slipping issues it helped me. Also make sure a full tune up has been done recently as your engine may not be running to the best of its abilities.

Turns out my exh manifold gasket had gone to complete ****, thus the reason I was only hitting 1psi(just happened a few days ago as stated in prevoius thread). Now I was hitting 10psi at the track, but at the time I was wondering if I'd cracked the mani due to how much louder the car was. Hopefully this'll help a little with my times.

Few things I have learned..
1. Burnouts WORK. I dont care WHO says they dont, everytime I listen to some "veteran" that says radials dont need a burnout, I end up in the 2.0-2.2 range. I do a NICE SMOKEY burnout before every launch, and yes I do it in the water box on a brake stand. I dont have a line lock. Its all footwork to hold the car on boil till you are ready.
2. If you can get away with it, BACK UP to the burnout box. Rolling your street radials through the water box is not going to get you anywhere fast, and is REALLY going to **** off the slick crowd (believe me, they are already pissed you are even there, trashing the VHT with your radials). The water traps in the grooves in your front radials and really fouls your launch area as you drag water all the way up to the start line. Roll around the burnout box and back into it. Most tracks will allow it.
3. I try to eyeball the launch area. Just because YOU tried not to soil the track doesnt mean the jackass in front of you with his FWD didnt just roll through the box and drag water all over the track. Pick your line carefully. This is alot easier at night events where the stadium lights really show where the water and oil are. Also, if you think the launch pad is screwed, tell an official. You paid the same as everyone else, your lauch pad should be as pristine as it is for a 500 HP dragster.
4. Slip the clutch, but ONLY TO A POINT! The longer you slip, the longer you are delaying full power to the ground. I try to keep my slipping under a second or so. Thats going to take you some time to match your RPM to your launch. I am wierd, once I see green, I have to mash the pedal down and it doesnt get lifted till the end of the run,. So I had to tailor my launch to the fact that I am a "FWO out of the hole" kind of person. Since I went to a 2-step launch control, this process has been greatly improved, because now I just release a button!
5. Keep your ego in check! If you blow the tires off, and you think keeping the hammer down is going to redeem yourself in the eyes of the crowd, think about the wall instead. It always wins. I remember once, myself and my friend were complaining to the track officials about the left lane being slick. They did nothing about it. Last race of the night I drew the left lane. I was racing some slow *** crap, but I couldnt swallow my pride. I blew off first gear, and short shifted into second thinking I could get traction. Of course I blew them off again. So I tried pedaling the car.. No dice, and the wall kept getting closer and closer. Finally I had to just give up.. It was a loss or the wall...
6. Practice, practice, practice...
Good luck!

Anyone besides me disconnect one side of the rear sway bar? It will do wonders for wieght transfer. Made my car squat and hook FAR BETTER WITHOUT THE SWAY BAR. I just removed the bolt on one side and bam, my car bogs instead of spinning and far less wheel hop.
