Finally took my Turbo II to the track...
Anyways, this was my first time ever racing on the track (with any car), so this was going to be a learning experience. Before today I had only launched this particular Turbo II once on the street, just to get a "feel" for it. However, I think I learned a lot and am excited to go back after a round of mods.
Before my first run I filled up with 4 gallons of 100 octane fuel and began icing down my stock TMIC. After the first run I lowered my tire pressure from 30psi to 20psi. Either way, I'm running low-profile tires on my 18x7.5 wheels--so this was a major detrimental factor for my 60's.
My boost was right around 13psi on my stock (haggard) turbo, except on my second run, where there was about 1 1/2 hour wait between runs, because of track clean-up. Since everything was nice and cool for my second run, the boost was spiking to 15psi between shifts, before bleeding down to around 12 by redline.
The first race was against a modified 70's Camaro who ran 13.936 @101.35:
I ran:
60' ~ 2.473
330 ~ 6.225
1/8 ~ 9.219
MPH ~ 83.36
1000 ~ 11.758
1/4 ~ 13.903
MPH ~ 105.41
My second run was against a modified '04 WRX who ran a 14.916 @ 95.84
I ran:
60' ~ 2.397
330 ~ 6.042
1/8 ~ 9.007
MPH ~ 84.38
1000 ~ 11.532
1/4 ~ 13.658
MPH ~ 106.33
The third run was a sweet one, because I lined up against a sick, white STI. I was a little disappointed because I was hoping to continue improving my times, but because of the heat-soak, my boost was lower during the rest of the runs.
I ran:
60' ~ 2.416
330 ~ 6.135
1/8 ~ 9.131
MPH ~ 83.47
1000 ~ 11.683
1/4 ~ 13.836
MPH ~ 104.99
The STI ran:
60' ~ 2.396
330 ~ 6.366
1/8 ~ 9.571
MPH ~ 76.20
1000 ~ 12.305
1/4 ~ 14.605
MPH ~ 97.86
The third run was against a new SRT-4 and it sucked my *****, because my Miata short-shifter's "stalk" rattled loose on my launch (like, it was spinning ). Regardless, I was able to get it fine into 2nd, but when I attempted to flick it into 3rd, it twisted and I totally missed 3rd. I desperately attempted to jam it in, but when it finally went--it was 5th gear. So yeah, I ripped it out of 5th, just as the SRT-4 flew past. I managed to get it into 3rd and finish the race... But yeah, it was disappointing.
My time:
60' ~ 2.389
330 ~ 6.070
1/8 ~ 9.547
MPH ~ 66.15
1000 ~ 12.486
1/4 ~ 14.849
MPH ~ 96.57
The SRT-4's time:
60' ~ 2.340
330 ~ 6.216
1/8 ~ 9.373
MPH ~ 78.54
1000 ~ 12.036
1/4 ~ 14.300
MPH ~ 101.00
My final run was against some stupid-*** ricer, supercharged Ford Focus who ran an unbelievable 16.849 @ 85.18. He did mis-shift into 3rd, but he never broke into the 15's throughout the day... Sad. During this run I was still battling the loose shifter, but I was more "focused" (pardon the pun), because I knew what I was up against.
I ran:
60' ~ 2.269
330 ~ 5.999
1/8 ~ 9.054
MPH ~ 82.33
1000 ~ 11.626
1/4 ~ 13.791
MPH ~ 104.73
So yeah, all in all it was a good day. I've always believed that my Turbo II (in it's current form) was good for very low-13's, and I think that would be true if I could get my 60's at 2.0 or below. It's cool, because the night before, me and my buddies had a little "prediction session" about what we would run. I got two right. I guessed that my best run would be a 13.6 and that my friend in his 350Z would run a best time of 14.4 (which he did). We went with two other cars; a VR6 swapped Jetta Coupe who ran a best time of 14.7 @ 95 MPH, it was cool because he only ran three times, and each time he cut a 10th of a second off his time (his first was a 14.9). The other car was an LTI-swapped '87 Sport Rx7 with exhaust/headers. The best time he clicked off was a 13.5 at around 104 MPH. It sucked because he was having a bitch-of-a-time with his auto-tranny and had several 14 second passes, because he was hitting rev-limiter etc.
Me and the LTI-buddy are going to "go up" on a pair of slicks/DR's. Either way, I swear if I could get my 60's below 2.0 and had a good turbo--I could break into the 12's.

nice numbers man, glad to see you overcame the difficulties in that past and got a motor down solid.
try some loctite on the shifter thread or 'stake' the threads so they are tight and it won't back off. that should take care of the mis shifting.

I've got two questions for anyone that's familiar with the 1/4 mile track.
With my trap-speed at around 106 mph, what time should I be running, and is there anyway to roughly calculate my HP? I've dyno'd the car before, but it was on a funky dyno.

With a trap of 106, I would put you in the area of 13.1-13.5. Definitely in that area somewhere. You're running a 13.9-14 flat, 5 miles an hour faster than I did. I was getting a slightly better launch though.
What exactly is your take-off technique?

Nice numbers. With a sub 1.90 60' launch (should be relatively easy with drag radials) you might be able to click off a high 12 second pass. Keep practicing, 2.4 60' times are kinda crappy....but then again, you raced two AWD cars with shitty 60' times as well.

Erik, forgot to mention this....but you had said you were thinking about getting some slicks/drag radials.... IF you go with slicks, check your local track rules, because a lot of tracks make you weld in a driveshaft loop if you're running slicks. Would hate to see you buy some slicks, and not get to use them.
