xxr 527s fit on a fd

trying to order my xxr 527 18s but im not sure which offset would work on a fd.. anyone running these on a fd? i need some help with tire size & offset

IMO, you're better off with stock wheels or if you want larger diameter get something like Enkei if on a budget. Those are low quality knockoff wheels, they don't belong on a car the caliber of the FD.

The FD was a ~$35k car 20 years ago brand new, its not exactly an exotic

If you are just street cruising or daily driving, then XXR and other cheap wheels are more than adequate.

I'd argue that putting the money into better tires would be more advantageous.



Just for comparison.

If you paid $15k (probably average these days) for a good condition RX7, and you spend $2,000 on new wheels, that is approx 13.3% of your cars value spent on wheels alone.

That would be equivalent to buying a Gallardo for $200k and then spending $26k on wheels.



I'm not saying there is anything wrong with spending a lot on nice wheels... personally I'm a fan of Works VSXX, but my FD is going up for sale after DRGG, so that would be a losing investment for me.

I didn't realize there was an approved/acceptable ratio for cost of mods to cost of vehicle. If you put **** on it, it becomes a **** car. It is what you make it.

Modifying and racing cars is a sport, luxury, and not something that is a necessity or entitlement. You reap what you sow. You put junk in a car, it becomes junk. There are companies out there that make high quality, expensive parts and there are companies that make low quality, cheap parts. There is no such thing as having a Ferrari on a Fiat budget.

If you cannot afford it, there is always a bone stock $1000 car somewhere that can get you from point A to B.

ive seen enough broken HRE's, dymags, ADVs, etc and other expensive wheels (as well as factory wheels) out there as well.
any wheel can break from impact, just avoid speeding through potholes or going offroading and youll be fine.

i agree, if you are a track driver, get the best you can afford... but most of us are not, and spirited street driving is not going to exceed the capabilities of an xxr wheel.

You've highlighted an interested point. All things will break, but to what degree does the wheel break and how much damage? What you've basically told us is that you are willing to pile on cheap & unsafe wheels because you're selling the car. So anyone who might be interested in buying your car will have this thread as reference that you said you are willing to put unsafe parts on your car and recommend them to others.

It's yours, we dont care what you do with your own car but its annoying to us where a seller of high performance car added widely-known unsafe wheels that have major potential to cause other damage. ...its just a sign I want from a seller trying to sell me his "baby".


Hopefully I didn't misunderstand your points from above.

lol, I didnt say that there was... i simply pointed out a comparison of expenditure based on the value of the vehicle to put it into perspective.

i guess it just amuses/intrigues me when i see people get so high and mighty about our RX7s and what wheels are "acceptable" for it.... its an entry level priced sports car.

Why even waste money on an Rx7, which as you said is a sports car, if you do not plan on doing "advanced driving" with it?

And, to compare apples to apples, it was not priced as entry level when it came out, and in the economic condition it came out. It was borderline exotic.

I agree that the wheels are cheap...

... but I am not aware of any real verified statistics on amount of failures compared to amount of wheels sold to prove that they are more unsafe than perhaps and Enkei wheel which is commonly recommended on this forum?


It is also "widely-known" on the allmighty intrawebz that RX7's are unreliable and break down all the time.... is that also true?

Ive daily driven my FD for 3+ years and 44k miles nonstop in the florida heat with no secondary car and it has been incredibly reliable, and my mod list is well planned and researched with parts that are more than adequate. Id wager to say that my FD spends more time running than many of the guys that look down on the cheap wheels.

Once again, I didnt say "lolz, go track race XXR".... i said for the street cruiser and daily driver, they are adequate.

Why not let the cheapo wheels eat up the potholes and speedbumps and curb rash of a daily driver.... when you are ready to goto the track, you can put on the higher quality expensive wheels.

Its not a waste if I like the way it looks, the way it feels, the way it drives, the way its laid out, the uniqueness of it... i enjoy getting in it every day.

That might be stretching it a bit... the RX7, 300zxtt and Supra were priced close to the Corvette, around $35k+-... the Viper and NSX were the borderline exotics, $50k and $60k.... italians were over $100k at the time i believe. (1993 prices)

I'm not selling the FD because I can't afford it, I'm selling it because I am upgrading to something with more power, and a lot comfier for my ever-worsening back

This is my project car that wont be a daily driver so im not really trying to spend to much on the wheels right now.. This is my first rx7 & im more into the apearance of the car than performance.. 90%% of the time the car will be parked so spending 3k on light wieght forged wheels isnt something i want to do right now.. Honestly i only paid 4k for the car & it needs work.. So im ok with spending 1000 on wheels just to wheels just to park it right back in my driveway & pull it out just to go around the block once or twice a week

Can anyone help with the offset/tire size with these wheels... They are 18x 8.75 fronts & 18x9.75 rear... I mostly see them in +20 and i think that might be a little to aggressive for a fd

As has been established 100 different ways over the past 20 years, the purchase price of this car in particular is meaningless. It's like a boat... they day you buy it will be the cheapest. It's not "entry level" just because it's affordable to buy. It's a high-performance semi-exotic (a term that has more to do with how it's engineered than what it cost), and people need to learn time and time again that it needs to be treated that way regardless of what you paid for it. The fact that many don't is the reason that such a high percentage of these cars are non-running or complete junk.

It's actually the REVERSE of brand snobbery. You guys are the ones who can't fathom putting QUALITY parts on it because it doesn't have a Lotus or Porsche badge on it or cost $75k. I don't care what logo is on your wheels, just be sure you get a quality forged wheel that fits and matches the performance characteristics of the car. There are some RELATIVELY affordable wheels that fit that bill, and you can practically steal used wheels on this forum. Why buy ****?

OP, Sounds to me like you need to do your homework and read up on wheel fitment. There is plenty of information here in this section of the forum, including a sticky.

Stop being lazy and expecting to be spoon-fed the info, use your brain and SEARCH

The +35 is going to be the closest that will fit without too much drama with those wheels. You'll need to do some fender rolling, but you should do that anyway when going with aftermarket wheels.
