Sounds like you're specifically asking about the
Function D coilover.
In all honesty this is the only difference in that coilover versus the Function Xs or X:
1. Comes with Aluminum Rear damper housing. Basically a lighter weight unit in the rear.
The front while still macpherson has a steel damper housing.
The Zeals in general will ride nicer than other coilovers with the same spring rates. The question is, WHY FUNCTION D???
I think it's still a gimmick kinda.... I have them on our S13.

Yup that's the general concensus. I've tested a large array of coilovers and have not found anything to provide that wonderful COMPROMISE.
You can get better track setups but nothing that will be as compliant for the street.

They ain't bad on the track either...not bad at all. I have Zeals on my FD as well, and love 'em. Like RIM-GURUsan said, they're easy on the kidneys on the street (unlike HKS), and when you adjust the dampening, the car stiffens up without any "bounciness" (unlike JIC).
I had a good time playing around with a few Caymans during the last Porsche Club track day at Laguna Seca.
