Whats the best offset for 17x8 and 17x9 wheels?

I'm thinking about going with some 17x8 for the front and some 17x9 for the rear. I was wondering what you guys recommend for an offset that would push the wheels to be just right with the fender with these kinds of widths. Thanks everyone!

I just ordered some 17x8.5 +49 wheels from Ramy. I think (though I haven't physically mounted them yet) that would be as good as you can get without finding one with a perfect +50 offset. Using a different offset will also cause undue wear and tear on your suspension since they are designed with a +50 offset. From all that I have read the closer you can get to the stock offset (+50) the better.

By the way, there’s a sticky in Suspension/Wheels/Tires/Breaks with a great spreadsheet for figuring out the precisely what your looking for; FD Wheel and Tire Sizing.

Using said spreadsheet, you can see that running 17x8 and 17x9 with a wrapped in 225x45 and 255x35 for the front and rear respectively will give you sufficient clearing both inside and outside. Note: your actual speed when your speedo indicates 60mph in the front will be 60, but your rear will be 58.

Anyway, check out that spreadsheet. It’ll allow you to play with the wheel offsets, and tire sizes to determine your best setup. For the lazy, here's the FD Wheel and Tire Sizing Spreadsheet (This is only a link to the already attached spreadsheet).

So how about some 17x8 with a +45 and some 17x9 with +38? do you think that would work out ok?

If you’re going to wrap them in 225x45 and 255x35 I think you will be okay. Given that the height of the car is stock.

Yea, I figured you were talking about an an FD when you started your thread in the 3rd Generation Specific (1993-2002) forum.

That will fit fine, you could run a little less offset in front if you want. I've run 17 x 8's up front with +41 with 235/40 tires and probably could have gotten away with
a +35 before it got close to the fender lip.

so with these sizes and stock suspension what do you guys think would be the best tire sizes? I want to stay away from super low profile tires if its at all possible. 35 series kinda scares me. Let me know what you guys have run and liked. Thanks for all the input so fast.

225/45 front, 255/40 rear will work well.

are u wanting to be flush FLUSH?
or u looking for tire in line with the fender 'flush'

cause those are 2 totally different views of flush

this is omochis FD with 17x9 +17 with a 225/45/17

Size: 64.1 KB

Name: DSC04241.jpg
Views: 1909
Size: 43.4 KB

my recomendation for FLUSH
in a 17x8 and 17x9

17x8 +7 215/40/17 about -2 camber and a roll
17x9 +10 235/40/17 about -2 camber and a roll

id get 9s all around if i was you
run same tires

but thats me, i like stretched tires
i drift and autox
i have a slammed car

these guys here like really wide tires and high offset to get more tire
only lowering is usually springs so instead of a 4inch drop they do 1.3 - 2 tops

just something to consider
not saying either way is right, just telling u ur options
those offsets i gave u are based off what we did on omochis car and what it would take to fit them

food for thought

go away dude, we don't put skinnier tires than stock just to "fit" stupidly low offsets. The wheel forum was full of good advice until you and a couple of other idiots showed up.

PROPERLY fitting tire sizes for 17x8 and 17x9 would be 225/45 or 235/45 up front, 255/40 or 265/40 rear. The +45 and +38 offsets will be fine.

Yah I'm running 235/45 and 255/40 but with +35 offsets.. front would fit better with a fender roll, but that's because my FD's dumped on Teins.. sitting pretty low right now..

A 275 will fit at the rear with an offset in the +42 to +50 range.

i said IF he wanted to go this route, this is a good solid option
if he wanted fat tires theres plenty of space to show ur opinions and pics of what they fitments look like on the car

stop ****** hating cause u dont like reading my informative posts on this subject
we all have our own style so if u got nothing nice to say about what im HELPING him with, then just post ur fitment and what YOU recommend

I was thinking of:

17x9+35 245/40 tire for the fronts
18x9.5 +35 265/40 tire on the back

I like the streched tire look, phat lipped wheels, and i'm getting ground control coilovers+fender roll. If i can find something other than Work Wheels that can give me a good lip size in better offsets i'll run those.

Once again rynberg comes and starts problems. Maybe he can help ruin this thread like mine.

I have 275's in the rear w/ +43, no rolling necessary.

Well, according to battle axe that will fit just fine.

In reality, it won't. But go ahead and listen to the new guy who doesn't even own an FD. And proper rear tire size would be 265/35 18, not 265/40.

Once again rynberg comes and starts problems. Maybe he can help ruin this thread like mine.
Yeah, once again I came in and actually recommended offsets and tire sizes that properly fit and will give optimal performance. Silly me.

No thats not what you did you. You attacked battleaxe. The thread starter said he wanted to "push the wheels to be right with the fender." Which to me sounds like wants something like what battleaxe suggested. Not the "Proper sizes" you said. Battleaxe even said its just his opinion and its is one route but you say NO, I KNOW EVERYTHING AND THATS WRONG.

Anyway...To the thread starter: I had 17X8 and 17X9 w/ +38 offset w/ 235/40 up front and 245/45 and I never had any problems rubbing. That would be a good route for a crusing around town and enough grip.

I respect Rynberg's opinion. He has alot of experience with our cars. Years more than anyone here who gives him a hard time on this thread. I belive that Rynberg posts what he KNOWS is right and not what he THINKS might work.

I've seen people with low offsets work their wheels into the car. Hopefully i can work low offsets onto my car but i'll keep my eyes open for a phat lipped proper offseted wheel that looks good.

I respect his opinion but it is just that an opinion. He doesnt respect the opinion of anyone else. I have voiced my opinion on the sizes for the thread starter so I will stop hijacking this thread now.

Most of the wheel advice you will get on this board will not do what you just asked. People will recommend offsets to make your wheels sunk. Not saying that will cause poor handling or anything, just dont be disapointed when your +38's are not super flush. Personally i wanna see someone pull of some wheels like this:
