want racing wheels- stong light and cheap

Hi, Newby here.

I've done a quick search but there are no specific recs for a lightweight strong racing wheels. I want 17" wheels for FD track use.
Not real intrested in the eye candy- they need to be STRONG first and light. Low price would be great too.

Other than BBS, CCW, any others that work with the FD. ASA, SSR? are they any good?

Do the Mustang GT wheels work on FD- if so are they light weight?

Thanks

I think the old saying is:

"Strong, light, and cheap....Pick any two."

what about the Zigen's fn01r-c?? they're probably the cheapest strong wheel you might get. http://www.5zigenusa.com/main.html.

Oh yeah and light too.

Honestly, I don't trust those wheels to track duty. I know some people using them for that, but I would use the Pro Racer GN+ for track duty instead.

BTW, another inexpensive, light & strong wheel is the Rota Slipstream. Yes, they are a relicas of a Spoon wheel, but a lot of cars run them for track wheels including WRXs, Lotus Elises, etc..

forgeline racing wheels ....are great but they are not cheap ... I think in order for you to get what you are looking for (strong, lightweight, cheap) is to get good condition used wheels...

Used wheels are a great option to get quality at a lower price.

If you want strong and light for a reasonable price, you should really be considering Volk or CCW. With CCW, you get custom wheels for the price of off-the-shelf. Enkei does make some good performance wheels but they aren't typically in FD friendly offsets.

I would also recommend rethinking your wheel sizes. If you want a staggered setup, I would recommend 17x9 with 255/40, and 17x10 with 275/40. There are a lot more track tires in those sizes than would fit on 17x8.5 and 17x9.5.

Contact Rishie at Auto RnD for Volk/Enkei.

I don't know about that. The Pro GN+ are under 20lbs. I've seen 16lbs for the 16" so the 17's and 18's probably aren't that much more. That will put it on even with the GT7 which are similarly priced. The other SSRs are more expensive (new that is).

These cost me $200 + drilling = $260. I have no idea who makes them but they are pretty damn light. 17x8.
Bought them at Performance Wheel and Tire in Denver. They had some nice MOMO racing wheels for cheap but not the right sizes I needed.

From what iv seen they well under presure. i know there are a few 300z's that use them for the track. But by vote goes to Gram Lights there not too pricey.

I am surprised no one has mentioned Kosei wheels. They have been proven to be very strong over the years and theyre cheap.

Try looking at the K1's.

Also, Buddy Club and Kosei wheels are the same just different brand stickers on them.

Thanks a bunch, Guys! This is a start and will research these. I am usually familiar with the Porsche world, in which OE, CCW, Forgeline, or BBS is the way to go. These are obviously hugely expensive (except for used OE).

I do want to go bigger than stock but not crazy big. Do you guys who track, run staggered setups or the same tires all around. What are the common sizes for track work in a 430hp FD.

(Of course track suspension questions to follow soon-- unless someone can point me to the right thread now and save me the embarrasment)

Thanks.
