Turning top mount for most negative camber

Hi,

Quick question, since the top mount hole for the rx7 fc strut is eccentric and not perfectly centered, one of the ways to adjust for camber is by turning the top mount. There is a little circle on top of the top mount that when turned a specific way promotes for more caster or camber. I have read that when the dot is facing the inside forward strut top bolt that the car will make most caster. And if the dot faces the inside engine side bolt that the car will make most negative camber.

Is this correct?

Also, to turn the top mount I would turn the spring perch portion circled in red below? Do I need to drop the strut so the top mount studs are no longer in contact with the frame?

Thanks for all your help. I have tokico blues w rb springs and would ideally like -1.5 degrees of negative camber.

Thanks in advance!
Alex

I thought the reference mark was a little square rubber section cast into the upper mount. The positions you have listed are correct. I've never heard of it being used for caster adjustment, but it will do what you're asking.

You will need to turn the upper mount, the part with the studs, in order to move the mark. It is the section above the area you marked in your picture.

You're not going to get -1.5 degrees without camber plates. Even then, you run into issues with the springs hitting the front shock towers. I think you gain maybe .2 degree camber by spinning the top.

This may not apply, but with 1st Gens there is a small triangle/arrow indicator. Positioned so that it is pointing toward the inside/rear of the car provides the maximum camber/caster while using stock parts.

Camber plates will get you more camber than that.

Camber plates with coilovers (smaller diameter springs) will get you exactly where you want to be.
