Tires for a novice

Need everyone's suggestion on which tire to get for a novice with a series 5 TII.

205/55/16

My choices so far are:
-Yoko Avs Intermediates ($58) at tire rack... <--- not the sport model
-yoko a520
-Dunlop Sp8000
-Falken FK-451
-Toyo Proxies H4

personally i don't really care for the most cutting edge tire out there... this will be my first time with a rwd car, my first time on high performance tire... so i want one where it won't break my budget... and the avs intermediates at tire rack for 58 are tempting...

and these will be summer only tires

the intermediates are fine if you don't care that much and want to save a buck. however, the stickier the tire, the less likely you are to bring the rear around. you may also want to go with a slightly wider rear tire too, for the same reason.

i love the intermediate b, but they are discontinued and don't last very long.
i love the a520, but they're noisy and wear quickly too.

anyone suggest the dunlops or toyos?

and what rear tire should i have? i think the next is a 215, and with a 50 or 45 profile its still a bit smaller in overal diameter.

Don't go cheap on tires...
Get some nice summer tires and not all seasons...

I think Piralli PZero or S0-3 are your choice

Seriously, what is your budget?

pd_day...
s0-3s would be really nice...

you need new tires too don't u? wanna try to get a better price by buying 2 sets at a time?

but i want to try to keep it down to say 600 to 800 dollars for tires, balance, mount and everything. I mean if i get a good deal at 800 then i'd get 800 stuff.

but i was pretty impressed with SleepR1's review of the AVS intermediates... and yes those were the intermediates NOT the avs intermediate sport models, i asked.

If they are summer tires only, then I would definently go with the AVS Intermediates. They are a GREAT tire for a great price. The only downside is that they wear quickly, but any other high performance tire will wear almost if not as quickly as the AVS I's. Some newer tires like the S03's have more overall grip, but I still like the AVS I's more because they give SOOO much feedback, and when they breakaway the loss of traction is very smooth and gradual and easy to counter. The S03's have EXCELLENT grip, but when they lose grip you have to be a little more quick to control a slide. If I had the choice of a track tire to be used for all out speed, I'd choose the S03's, but for road use for someone who has never driven a RWD car, I'd definently go with the AVS's.

I agree with Speedracer...I have wet and dry track experience with 255/40-17 AVS Intermediates mounted on 9 x 17 SSR Integral A2s (45-mm offsets) at four corners, and the AVS I's were astounding. Consider that the AVS I's were only $103 each from the Tire Rack, and it really makes one wonder why one would spend more on summer performance tires!? Sadly $103 each for 255/40-17 are closeout prices, so buy them while they last at the Tire Rack!
