Tire shoot out

I know super street had a more current and wider variety anyone have that issue. here is the older euro tuner one. skip to page three if you want to get to the actual tire comaparison.

Very interesting. I'm very surprised that the Toyos tested so mediocre...(even though the differences between tires is pretty small). Then again, they do cost significantly less than the "top" tires in the comparo...

I didn't surprise me that the Toyo T1-S was mediocre. Actually, I was glad to see that it did as weel as it did. It's an old tire that is competing against newer designs. I suspect that the T1-S was the oldest tire in the group. I would have liked to see how the new T1-R would compare to the others. You would expect it to do better, since it is supposed to be in improvement over the T1-S.

It's nice to see a good test like this one. I would have like to see a noise test included, as that is an important factor for me. Noisy tires suck

I don't think any of the tires used in the test are "cheap" tires. You probably won't find them at Wal-Mart

IF you noticed, the differences in the dry between the fastest tire and the Toyo was less than .4 seconds on a 30-second course driven by professional racers. I sincerely doubt that 99.9% of the forum members here could get a meaningful performance difference between those tires.

Most of what matters in 99.99% of driving is the FEEL of the tires, and the Toyos are very good here. And yes, they are a very old design, and have been replaced by the T1-R that is just coming to the states.

My comment on the mediocrity was more aimed towards the WET performance than the dry...my T1-S are the best tires in the rain I've ever had on any car. Can't wait until the T1-R does it's full rollout with the sizes I need.

true they are professionals which to me brings up more concern. I believe the better you get the less impact it becomes on parts/car/power and more on the driver.

As an amatuer the difference of a lesser tire is multiplied exponentially. so if the difference in tire is small between Pros an amatuer may show a bigger gap. Being that a pro is more likely to adjust for a tires weakness better than I.

Sorry, I disagree with (or don't understand) all of that. A pro driver will get more out of any tire. A lesser driver will get less out of any tire. There is no exponential difference.

hard to explain in plain writing. I guess it's more of my belief that pros are more consistent drivers and the closer you are to perfect (advanced) leaves less room for improvement.

Your belief is wrong. The differences between tires will be MORE evident with pros driving, not less. The pro will actually be driving at the car's and tire's limits, therefore resulting in differences between tires, an amateur will not fully use the car's and tire's limits, therefore resulting in less obvious differences between the tires.

Hee hee hee...I'm awaiting for T1-S to go out...and have a closed out deal on them. These are the true street tires. Softer side wall and very good in rain. Althought they have a smaller surface comparing to many, they do still perform w/ in reach of others.

From other thread, there's a post saying that the T1-R is just getting better on the sidewall flex. With added weight, I still like the T1-S better....and cheaper too

I am very happy that the BFG KDs performed as well as they did......they are also not a new tire and I just picked up some 245/40 and 275/40/17s for my Fikses for $475 for all 4 !

bfgoodrich kdw2 235/40/18 up front 265/35/18 in back. going to change to 245/35/18 up front because the fronts look ridiculously huge! damn tire rack guy talked me out of the 245s. I say toyos suck because I have heard several local reports of those tires coming apart-low miles.

I'm surprised there's no Bridgestone tire.
I was hoping the S03 was in there...

I guarantee you the Toyo T1-S are better than those KDW2s....at least in the dry.

I've never heard of a single durability problem with Toyo tires. The T1-S is an old design and has been out for several years -- no history of problems that I've discovered in my research. They are spec tires in a racing series for crying-out-loud, I doubt they have durability issues! Sure you aren't mistaking it for another brand (like Kumho, which HAVE had tires come apart with some of their models...).

Actually, I was surprised the Ecsta MX got such a lukewarm reception in the article.
From the direct experience on here, it sounded like a great tire for the money.
It was not consistent with what the Eurotuner article had concluded...

BTW, the Falkens have the wrong picture. The RT-215s are what I run on my FC, and they look very different from the pic in the article.

Nope.
The base factory is in Taiwan.

The tire has huge amounts of silica compound.

I haven't had a set of Toyos, (and I'll bet you haven't had kdw2s ) but I would bet that they are at least as good as the T1-S. I am VERY happy with mine.

They did have the Bridgestone RE050A in there, just not the S-03.
