Suspension set-up for heavier engine - Front grip
Just trying to get my head around setting up suspension for more front grip in a car which has had an engine swap in the front. Car is used for drifting.
Car in question is an FC, has currently got 8k/6k BC coilovers, no sway bars, 235/40/17 Ventus RS-2 Tires. Rears are usually 235/45/17 Bridgestone MY01 (less grip than RS-2's on paper)
Alignment is Front: 0 toe, 3 degrees neg camber each side, stock caster
Rear: 1 degree toe in, 1.5 degree camber
With the 13B-T the car was awesome, heaps of control, no understeer could throw really aggressively into corners.
Now the car has a 1JZGTE , which weighs only about 30kg more but does put a bit more weight in front of the struts. Now recently ive been experiencing alot of understeer, mainly just on big entires, and occasionally on switches. its fine on slow track just sucks on fast tracks.
Would changing to 10k/6k help (i have spare 10kg springs) control the tyres more and give it more grip or just make the problem worse? I could look at putting the front sway bar in but would require a bit of modification to clear the engine (too much work to just try)
Maybe the tyres are wrong for the use? the tracks over here are really cold at the moment so track temps and really low and often wet.
Are there any other tricks to get more front grip without losing an rear grip?
Any help would be great! Only factual real world experience please though.

Interesting, I figured with more weight up front, you would have more oversteer
The way I see it, the driving style you were using while the car still had a rotary is now different with the 1jz.

Yeh im getting confused with the more weight over the front? I guess there is a certain weight in which a certain spring/wheel rate can handle and 8kg with no sway bar cant handle the 1JZ. cars that come with 1JZGTE stock usually run like 12/14kg front springs.
After doing a bit of reading I think I dont think I have enough Anti roll and the tyre under load is going into positive camber, ive spotted a bald spot on the outside block of one of my front tyres. seems odd?
anyway, I have an event this weekend and I have put the 10kg springs up front, will see how they go.
I dont think my driving style has changed since the rotary?

i'd try a front bar. i'm running ST front and no rear, and its decent
that whole "more front bar = understeer" thing is a gross summarization. too little and too much have the same effect
