SSR Competitions? Volk GT-N?

Hey I am buying rims really soon and I decided on going with 18X8.5 in the front and 18X9 in the rear assuming i can get the rim i want in that side??
Which is the Better ALL AROUND Rim??
SSR Competition?
Volk Racing GT-N?

Will be going on a 1993 FD3S that is Silver, Rim color is Bronze or Gunmetal.
What you all think?

I have the SSR Comps (complete with decals applied) for race-track use only with Hoosier 245/45- and 275/40- 17 R3S03s.

My SSR Comps are 8.5 and 9.5 x 17 (fr and rr, respectively). They look fabulous on my red FD (at least before the brake dust turns them black!)

The SSR Comps are some of the lightest wheels on the market...15 lbs and 16 lbs, 8.5 and 9.5-inch x 17s, respectively!

The 17-inch SSRs with wider Hoosiers (with no additional mods) have shaved off 2 seconds from my previous laptimes with my old 8.5 x 16 Kosei K1s with 245/45-16 Hoosier Motorola Cup tires.

For 18-inch SSR Comps, the available sizes are 8.5 and 9.5 x 18s. I think they're slightly heavier in 18s vs 17s, but not much more. The Comps will look even "tighter" on a silver FD (minus the SSR SSF Decals...if you're using the Comps on the road only)

Thanks for the help SleepR1.

I am leaning more and more to the SSR Comp's but is a
18X8.5F and 18X9.5R gonna effect my handling greatly and cause some understeer??
please let me know

There willl be some understeer, but not enough for you to notice on public roads. You have to push the FD pretty hard on a road racing circuit to experience the very slight understeer.

I actually have learned to like the understeer; it helps me keep the car on the track surface, since all I need to do is lift of the gas slightly to get the car's nose pointed at the turn's apex, instead of overcooking the turn, and leaving the track BACKWARDS!

Has anyone tried SSR Comps using 17x9 all around and 255/40 tires? I see 17x9 listed on the wheelweights site but I never hear about anyone using them, what offsets are available for 17x9?

9 x 17 SSR Comps all the way around is not available for the FD...If they were I'd have that setup!

Yeah, but they're action shots at Putnam Park Road Course (car is cornering HARD). Can't really see the SSR Comps well, as the wheels are spinning (blurred), and they're a mess...the brake dust makes them appear almost black...a neat effect, but not show quality, I'm afraid

Ok new question, what about running 255/40 all-around on SSR comps in 17"x8.5"? I would assume 8.5" is wide enough for 255 tires since Mazda equips newer RX-7s with 255 tires in the rear on 8.5" wide rims. How come no one does this?

You really need 9-inch wide wheels to fit 255s properly. Put 245/40-17s on the 8.5 x 17 Comps...better performance, lighter weight...

Just curious, why do you have the decals on your wheels SleepR1?
My friend uses SSR Comps on his daily driven, Blown 99 M3 and they look great and have held up great. Still waiting to get it back on the track with these wheels.

Dyre,

My SSR Comps, 8.5 and 9.5 x 17s with 245/45-, and 274/40- 17 Hoosier R3S03s, are strictly race wheels for track days. The decals look very cool in that regard...but I probably would not run the Comps with decals if they were strictly road wheels.

I have a set 5 of 9 x 17 SSR Integral A2s in 9 x 17 with 255/40-17 Yokohama AVS Intermediates for my daily drivers--four plus a full-size spare

SPOautos, Whats going on man? How is the car coming? The decals are just stickers that come with the wheels. You just put them on your self if you are into names I guess. I left mine off. Hey, how can I post pics on here of my car/ wheels?
